First I want to thank all of you for your advice on playing in the WPT Legends of Poker at the Bicycle club in Los Angeles. First major live table play tourney for me and to make it worse I sit down at my table for 10 hours of play with Phil Helmuth, Erik Seidel, David Choi and Layne Flack at my table

To make a long story short I got as good as they gave, I knocked Layne Flack out with trip JJJ to his KK. I ended the day with a bigger stack then Phil, Erik and David :)

It was one of the greatest experiences of my life, I got along great with Phil & David, Erik is real quiet. Phil and I goofed around alot and played many heads up pots together. Day off today, tomorrow is play till you're in the money, I'll keep ya posted.

Again thanks all.

Ron

WOW. I don't know what to say, except congrats! And to not only be able to play with several big players, but to knock one out as well! That is really fantastic! (And the bragging rights of out-stacking Phil and the others.)

What ever you're doing, keep it up! Best of luck to you tomorrow! Keep us posted!!

Thanks, I played tight and with premium hands, blinds were small so this was fine, pros picked up on it and knew I was on something if I was in. Sometimes I won, some I lost but lost with a good hand, some were very big pot either way.

Tomorrow I'll have to open it up and take some chances to get in the money, blinds & antes are gonna be big, gonna need some luck :)

Yup I saw that also today, he was addressed as Layne and looked like him as I remember maybe I was mistaken. I saw him a Phil playing chinese poker together during break/timeout. Regardless I knocked someone named Lane out and got his stack. Gotta go now, just saw there are about 230-240 remaining, I am slightly above mid pack in chips and the bubble is 46. Once we get 45 play continues tomorrow for the final table.

Thanks all, I made a good showing but came up short in my 1st live tourney. Someone told me I was 104th (not sure how accurate that is but it's pretty close), I'm not sure but grinded all day catching really bad cards, In the 4 hours I played today my best hand was a 66  Blinds got up to 600/1,200 with 200 antes I had about 32K left in chips and needed a double up or take down a few pots. To top it off Scotty Nguyen was to my left. I did what I swore I wouldn't and for the first time all tourney I gambled and did my first all in with AK and was called by 66  couldn't catch a card and was beat

Sorry guys.

You say sorry????? You sat down and played poker with some of the best players in the world and didnt take any sh*t and you say sorry. If there was a t-shirt with your name on it I'd wear it, thats how impressed I am with you. Good play mate.
A Cardschat player will take down a major tourney within the next year, I can guarantee it.
By the way, what was the tourney again, guess I missed any post you might have said about this. Buy-in, payout, etc.

Thanks all, I deeply appreciate it. This was my first "LIVE" tourney and I must admit, I'm hooked. I'm retired at 46 and do roadracing as a hobby to occupy my time. I learned a lot about live tourney play. I think I will do a few more even if I have to buy in, probably the WPT North American Championships at the Fallsview Casino in canada will be next :)

That's an amazing story Rebell! Congrats on your success, especially with it being your first live tourney!

Where you nervous playing against Phil, Scotty, etc.? I wouldn't have been able to pay attention to what I was doing if I had to go heads up with Phil!

Again, great stuff Rebell! Enjoy Niagra (that's where Fallsview Casino is) and for anyone who has never been there: http://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/

No shame in busting out; a huge congrats to you for 1 gaining entry into the WPT, and 2 getting so far against so many well known poker masters (nevermind busting one of them!). With the blinds raising and your stack dwindling, it's perfectly fine to take a race with big cards or a pair. Though I'm sure you know that; you're the one playing major tourneys like this one :D

Stangely I wasn't that nervous, sitting down on Day 1 with 20K in chips I was more apprehensive, When I saw David Choi straight across from me (I was in #4 him in #1) I remember thinking man I'm in trouble, took me a couple of minute to notice that Erik Seidel was in #7 seat, that's I resided myself to a short day and made a point to have fun. We started and seat #10 was empty, on the 5th hand I got AJ and raised Erick called, flop A, 8, 2 I bet 1K Erick calls, turn J, I check Erik bets 1K I call river 6, I bet 2K Erik calls I win and take over 5k from him. After that I was at ease won a few lose a few.

After 2 hours I was thinking this poor guy in seat #10 is gonna get blinded out, the Phil Hellmuth sat down and I let out a loud verbal laugh. I actully loved it, it was like a poker fantasy. I played alot of heads up with the 3 pros won more then I lost. One hand Phil is joking with me trying to rattle me, telling me he's gonna bust me out and throws 3K in chips in (we're at 75-150 blinds, I say OK and throw in 10K :D and tell him lets see, he folded, I had KKK.

It was absolutely amazing and Phil made it his mission to break me but it didn't happen and we goofed around alot, like a dream come true, I highly recommend it.
