Losing money...

One thing I'm finding at the minute (recently moved up to $7 hyper HU matches) is that the amount of money I lose some nights has really started to bother me. I'm constantly checking my account and looking at my my graph. When I was playing the $3.50s I got used to the odd downswing and losing just stopped bothering me as I would only ever drop like $30 in a night but now I'm starting to tilt again and get really angry (which I seemed to have overcome before I moved up) as I'm dropping like $70 or so in one block of games. I can only seem to stop when I realise I'm doing stupid shit to try and win back money lost (called an AI for K8o for 25bb before I realised today)

The reason for this thread is I'm quite concerned about my mindset since I hope to play semi-professionally whilst I'm at Uni next year and obviously I'm going to have to grind through these bad stretches or I won't get in enough volume to justify not having a part time job. Hopefully I'll be at least at $15's and going for $30's so it won't just be $70 a night it will be closer to $300. I was wondering how other people cope with the actual money they lose when they play? Say if you drop $200 in a night do you just switch off from the money and content yourself with making +ev decisions? How do you cope when you know the money lost is due to a few hands you misplayed?

Haven't structured this thread very well but it was just a few thing on my mind I wanted to enquire about.

Edit: Another thing I'd like to add is that I don't feel quite properly rolled for $7 games but I asked the question on 2p2 and it seemed to be a fairly overwhelming "move up, you're burning money not doing", obviously makes sense when I'm crushing the current level to move up where there is less rake and I can even halve my ROI and still get the same money/game. It hasn't helped that I've not ran well since moving up and it seems to have knocked alot of confidence out of my play.

Also recently when I've sat down and regged it has felt more like gambling than actually playing. When I win it's the same feeling I get when I've bet on football and the team scores and I win the bet.

Well if you're properly rolled for the level, stop looking at your cashier. I mean I know where you're coming from I sometimes feel bad when I have a -10BI day (I've had several) and when I did it at 100nl it was much worse than when I did it at 10nl. The trick is to try to forget the $$ value and just think about it as BIs. I try to only ever think of my BR in terms of BIs not $$s but it's hard sometimes especially when you look at the cashier and it says $500 instead of 50BIs or whatever.

Best advice is just keep working at it and don't be afraid to drop down until you're more comfortable with your BR.

Yea I mean other day Cashier dropped from $490 to $420 and I just couldn't help feeling angry at the amount of actual money I was dropping. I have like 60+ BI and will move down if I go <50 so I think I am rolled enough, I've always played hyper with 100+ BI which is why I feel abit insceucre with 65ish. It doesn't help that every time I reg for a game my account kindly reminds me how much down I am (unfortunately can't turn that off either).

Honestly to me this is more than enough reason to not move up yet. I know it's more difficult for you since the rake is worse for the lesser BI but being comfortable is more important imo.

Yea I mean rake is pretty significant reason to move up as well as no real skill level difference in opponents. With a 53% WR I'd have 3.73% ROI in $7's. With same WR at $3.50's 2.97%. I mean that's pretty significant in the long term (like $0.16 per game) which is why I do feel it's best up to move now. I suppose it's a balancing act. I think as long as I have the mvoe down at 50BI's mark I should be ok. I just don't think I'll be happy in the future if I'm dropping like $300 a day when I'm playing for real life money rather than just as a game as I am now

i think this pretty much goes for everyone, whenever you move up to a higher stakes game, you think about the money a little more, a bit more nervous, the down swings seem so much worse

2+2 is wrong, if you dont feel comfortable playing with less than 100BI's then dont move up, it will effect your game

your crushing the $3.50's then keep playing them til you have 100BI's

as i said whenever you move up for the first X number of games you will feel a little more uncomfortable with it, its only natural, but you soon get used to it
