Yes, everyone has these days. I like to call it "second best hand syndrome". Losing this way is worse than being card dead imo. When card dead you don't seem to lose as much as when you are getting great hands to start with and ending up second best. Try taking a break. Try lowering the limits you play at until this phase has passed. Post some of these hands in the HA section to be evaluated to see if there was anything you could have done differently.

You want to know how to avoid variance? Stop playing poker. You want to avoid stacking TPTK? Think about what your opponent might call your shove with before you do it. You want to help minimize the bad days? Play when you're feeling good and are in the correct mindset.

For example I played a lot in PS 2.5K depositor satelite frees and I did well there, I could won five 25K tickets. But on thursday something changed there and I couldnt win with anything tho I played with the same gamestyle.. I lost preflopallins, I got the weaker monster etc...so Sunday I couldnt get ITM in any of the 25Ks. Next day I tried out an other room and I won a freeroll. |

I agree there's variance in poker, but I think that often, when players lose a lot, they keep playing in order to lose less... and finally lose more And when players play well, and win a lot, they stop playing because fearing a bad beat that could hurt these winnings... and finally win less I guess you maybe could try stop playing when facing a really bad day.

part of my ? has to do with limiting loses on bad days it seems there are days that no matter what I do the cards just wont fall right when this happens to you do you sense it soon enough to stop playing and save money. I know a guy who uses 3 buy ins for his stop in cash games S&gs are a little different what do you do there Thanks

re: losing days??? poker I believe this is the variance in poker. If you play poker alot for a very long time...after a while you will not get so lucky. "Variance". This is why alot of people who play MTTs don't make it to the final table because they can't handle the variances a long MTT has.

Some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you. We have all been there and just have to work through it. On those kinds of days, and you know when your having them, try not to make obvious mistakes, don't push it and whatever happens don't chase. What worked for you last session or last night may not work for you this session. However, that said, all here I am sure would agree that good fundamentals are key to being successfull. Good luck in your future endevors and beat yourself too much. It happens to all of us.

honestly you need to be playing when your in the right mindset. if your mind is on other things (whether it be homework, browsing the internet, twitter, facebook, CC lol or whatever etc) it only hurts your playing. if it feels like nothing is going right on a particular day than dont be afraid to call it quits cuz u always have tomorrow. Also listening to music seems to help me immensely when on a bad run.

re: losing days??? poker oh man, Thank god I read this thread Ive been getting so frustrated lately by bad beats. Ive been losing ppKK to Q8os and ppAA to K-10 so much lately Ive been wanting to hang it up (lol figure of speech). Granted I only play freerolls it still sucks to lose to bad hands on a constant basis it even been making me not want to call peoples all in preflop with my aces thats just crazy talk I think. I guess it makes me feel better that Im not the only one that this happens to.

No Ethon, I sat back and thought about what I was doing that I wasn't doing before, I realized that I was playing alot more hands then I would normally play, usually I would not play anything lower then A -10,before I would wait for a good hand and trap,my br started going up and I was having fun cuz I was winning, that lead me to play more hands and lose, kinda lost track, gotta get back to the basic's,patience, play better odd's, did a little fishing realized I was the fish lol

Well for starters... When I can clearly see that I am on one of those losing days... I bail out and don't get back on till the next day... My best method I have used is to start at lower limits... even micro stakes and see how you fair out in those situations in the beginning of the day... If all goes well then move your way up the ladder and hopefully all is well... That is just a lil part of my strategy "testing the waters" on Full Tilt day by day. My Two Cents, Moe.
