Live Shark but Online Fish I'm starting to piss myself off now. I would say that my live play is pretty good. I always do well in tournaments and cash games and I would consider myself a very good player in live situations. However, I just can't seem to get it together online. I never do anywhere near aswell online as I do live. This is mainly down to me not being able to play the same. I can't use any of my reading and tells online which give me a good edge in live play and I never seem to believe anyone online because they are mostly nutcases, so I can never give anyone credit. I make plays online that I would just never even dream of doing in a live game. Anyway - I guess this is probably a common problem, although it is probably more common for good online player to struggle to play live. Anyone offer some pointers in how I can fix this up. I'm referring mainly to low stakes cash game play. I play a $0.50 / $1 game at home with a $100 and do very well in the long run. I play these games online and I just can't get it going in the same way I can the live ones. I don't think the standard of play is better online, in fact I would say it is considerably worse and I have trouble adjusting to nutters? Anyways, thanks. P.S - Geraint. Stop stalking me.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure that is the case really and has certainly not been my experience. Most of the players I end up with online are happy to chase a gutshot for a pot sized bet. I'm not saying all online players suck, of course not - I think the problem is more with me though, and the way I play differently online not how well they play. The players who sit on tables with me at Ultimate Bet are shocking, I just don't seem able to adjust to them.

re: Live Shark but Online Fish poker At .5/1 online you can be up against regulars multitabling trying to make a living. Dollar stakes live is anyone out for a lark, but you could be up against better competition than most in your live games. You have to make adjustments for every game, without knowing specific problems you're having (other than lack of reads)...might be hard to get an answer here. Trust me, there is almost no one who plays both live and online that doesn't agree that, for the same buyin, online isn't much, much harder.

I've played 1/2 NL and 2/4 Limit, 3/6 Limit, and even 5/10 LO8 live. I've never played any of these levels online. Probably because these are the lower levels that a live casino in AC will offer and I'm only going for a day and will take a certain amount with me. Online it's more of a pain to deposit, and I know I'll be playing more often, so I'll practice more strict BRM rules and play much lower stakes. My guess is that alot of people do similar things. So while you may crush your live .5/1 game, it's the equivalent of playing against people who probably play .05/.10 online. The people who play .5/1 online probably play 2/5 or 5/10 NL live and are generally much better players.

Bad players are very bad, online or live... but the good online players are very, very good! They seem to study the game more, and are much more willing to adjust to their competition. The game online is constantly changing-- games are no way as juicy as they were in the past, partly because the "fad" has faded a little... but mostly because online players study study study. I've found that the really good live players (at my limits, anyways) aren't improving nearly as fast... not even close! |
