live poker question. dealer jinx?

first i should say i realize its silly to think this at the table. how could the dealer have any way to jinx or not jinx the table. well today im in a live tourney, ehh about 30 people. long story short, one dealer had dealt the k.o. hand to virtually everyone that was gone. when she was dealin at the final table. i saw 3 or 4 runner runner strts, a 1 outer, and a few other wtf moments. with either of the other 2 dealers, i and most others were golden. everything went how the math said it should. my question, do you think any dealer has an effect on your poker mojo, or is it just in your head?

I have to say that sometimes you get that feeling that someone is out get you. But it is just the turn of events, a bad run of the cards.

i cant say i blame the dealer for this honestly. i just didnt have enough cards to hang around. but im more interested if anyone finds it weird how a certain dealer can be good or bad for you. im not trying to blame the dealer. a lot of the hands i saw didnt even involve me. it was interesting how one seemed to deal all the hot cards, and the other was the executioner.

In reality, it's complete nonsense. Unless that particular dealer is stacking the deck - one outers and runner-runners aren't really hallmarks of that though, and contrary to some people's opinion the average professional dealer doesn't know how to do that stuff anyway. I sure as hell don't.

Mentally, it's only real if you let it be. If you start to believe that a particular dealer is a jinx for you, it won't affect the cards that get dealt but it can affect how you choose to play them.

The dealer can be a scapegoat, but as you said, they obviously don't jinx a player or anything. As a poker player, it's important that you don't even consider the luck you've had in the past with a specific dealer, because the second you start trying to predict your luck rather than using math, you are in trouble.

Now, from what I understand, you had 3 dealers taking turns dealing and one dealer in particular, had been dealing when players went out?
And no one was knocked out of tourney when the other 2 dealers had been dealing?
Yup, sounds fishy to me .
TBH, this sounds absolutely ludicrous to blame any dealer for how the cards fall.

You should always blame the dealer when you lose, and if you find yourself always losing with a particular dealer, take your frustrations out on him/her. I would become proficient in throwing a card like a ninja-star (a la Chris "Jesus" Furgeson) and take out one of their eyes for their insolence.

Well, see here's the thing. The dealer actually is working for the casino. If pots are larger, then the casino gets to take the full rake. If play is going normally, and pots aren't generating enough action, then the casino is going to "call the pen" also known as "The black widow".

This is a dealer who knows all the tricks of the trade, pharoh shuffling, dealing seconds, bottoms, culling, false shuffles/cuts. He's got the chops. What this guy does, is deal multiple players good hands, like QQ, JJ, AK. Then the flop will come: QJA. Everyone thinks they have a good hand, the turn comes, A. Now everyone KNOWS they have a good hand. Bets are flying, the sound of chips hitting fills the air, and merryment is had by all. All the while the house is taking a full rake off all these pots. Then at showdown, Jacks full, and trip aces can't believe their luck to have been up against Queens full. But since it's live, players just muck their hands and fume, with no previous hand button to view mucked cards.

It's not an effect on mojo, it's cold calculated dealer hijinx.

I don't know about jinxing people, but I did play in AC once with a dealer who was very good at being able to call out the flop. He was right about 5 out of 6 times. So eventually I played a hand because of something he said and I wound up winning the hand. And although all of that may sound very shady, he was a good guy. He just had dealt alot of poker.

I have never thought of that in poker but in 21 It is a golden rule for me to stay far far away from asian dealers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and a group of friends have even nicked named asian dealers in vegas casinos lol.. but seriously in poker its you against another player. In 21 its you against the dealer the house !!!! and the house employ's the dealer

I don't think a dealer would ever rig the game, but it does seem like I have a better run of cards with different dealers.

I suppose there is the possibility that certain dealers ( unintentionally of course ) may not shuffle, cut, mix the cards as thoroughly as others, and that might have some bearing on how the cards fall.

I doubt this is the case but there is always the possibility.
Maybe with a board of say AAKJJ and two players going to showdown with one of them all-in and both hands now moved next to the board while holding say, AJ and KJ respectively.

You now have a cluster of nine cards, AAAKKJJJJ in close proximity before the shuffle up and deal for the next hand.
I'm sure any dealer will tell you this is not the case, and I would probably agree with them, but I guess anythings possible.

Are you asking if subliminally a dealer cab control what cards come out? I'd say no. but if you are asking if a dealer can cheat, yes.

Dunno about your casino, but the one here uses shuffle machines for cash games.

Also, even with a hand shuffle, the cut card should prevent them dealing from the bottom of the deck.

Yes, those cards might be in close proximity as the deck is gathered. Once you've executed a standard shuffle though (riffle-riffle-strip-riffle-cut) they won't be. And as mentioned above, a lot of poker rooms use a shuffle machine now anyway so the dealer couldn't leave those cards together even if they wanted to / knew how to.

I don't know anything about this since we don't have casino around here in this small town, yes have been playing a tournament before but don't think Dealer Jinx. :P
