Laying down the best hand Here is the short story. I am at the local casino by my parents place, and get into a nice size pot after about 45 minutes at the table. It is $1/$2 blinds with a max buy-in of $100. I have about $215 in front of me when the hand started. Raised pre-flop (to $10) and I called with KJo on the button. I flopped the K on a rag board and call the raisers bet ($10) on the flop. A third diamond fell on fourth street and I called a bet ($35) with the Kd. Anyways I catch the flush, and as soon as the fourth diamond falls he pushes in for $130. Anways long story short I layed it down. He showed he had a set of 8's without the diamond. I know not much of a short story, but the best I could do. Anyways I have done this once of twice online (throwing the best hand away). But in the end I don't risk my stack without the nuts, and I seem to still walk away up. Anyways I just need some reassurance that I am not making a big mistake by not calling with the second best hand. Not much you guys can say, but anything would be nice...I still haven't forgotten the laydown last night. It was a bad read.

Well, I would have raised the flop bet by your opponent. Is a great way to test the waters, especially since you hit your king. Again, raise on the turn, if your opponent calls you on the flop. And, yes, i would call with the second nut flush. Might lose, sure, but worth it i the long run.

re: Laying down the best hand poker I would've bet more, test the waters like Noble said, you have the K high flush..gotta go all the way. If you get unlucky then so be it. He bet his hand right and got paid off nice at the end. I hope you didn't show your fold either, If you did, you showed everyone you could be pushed off a big hand...a REALLY big hand. Scared money don't make money. GL on the felt.

re: Laying down the best hand poker Ya the more I thought about it after I folded I realized he would never make that move with the Ad...I just got too used to online poker. Well I left up again today, after throwing away $200 on one hand, so all in all a good two days. Could have been a great two days though.
