Late Registration? What are your opinions on late registration for tournaments? I know when you enter one hour after a tourney starts that many will be eliminated, but then again, you will be way off the chip leaders. Thoughts appreciated.

I like late registration... but i normally would rather play from the beginning of a tournament because i like the feel of getting started when everyone else does... plus i get 10-15 more hands if i register early.. and i like those hands to have a chance to get the stack up 500 or so chips.

well i will be the first to say that i don't like late registration. i hate when you register for a tournament thinking that there will be a certain number of players then by the end of late reg there is like 5-10X as many people. this is just frustrating when you do feel like playing a tournament that doesn't have more then 10000000000 people in it. i guess that i could just play on a smaller network but it isn't as easy to make a deposit on those sites.

Stars has started keeping late registration open for the first hour of all non-turbo tournaments. In general, if you are able you need to get in as soon as possible. You'll see more hands, with smaller blinds, and will in theory, be bale to manipulate the inferior players. If your buying in at the end of the first level, you're going to be starting with 3,000 chips at 50/100 or 60/120 and be forced to gamble very quickly. You ma outlast 20% of the field automatically, but its really a detriment to you if you're playing for the win... which you alway should be.

I like it because of the money pool, but at the same time, it's a dollar or so to enter so why allow another 2 or 3 hundered (or more) to join late. All it really does IMO is add about 2-3 hours to a trny that was going to last 5 or 6 hours already. It gets harder and longer just to make the money when you're only spending a dollar to begin with. While my overly competative nature won't allow to play like a complete idiot, It gets annoying to have to play for 3 hrs just to make the money compared to just 3 years ago, when I started, ITM took about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs MAX.

Late rgistration doesnt bother me. I love it in satt's, when you start out and think only top 3 are getting entries then come to find out that top 20 get in after all the late reg's...woohoo, still want to be #1 but a few more shots or more loot is always good for me. And dont worry about stacks too much in the first level or so cause most of them dwindle away to nothing later on anyways.

I saw a tourney yesterday that had late registration for an hour after the event started. I would assume it must be Poker Stars attempt to offer different games, attract new players, and more tourney buy-ins, etc. I don't really have a problem with late registration. I'm not a tourney player, if anything, re-buys and double rebuys bothers me more.

re: Late Registration? poker Personally I think It should end after level one but to me its about the same concept as a rebuy and I dont really care for those either but like most people have said they both add to the prize pool. Late registration up to an hour just slows the game down too much to me.
