Knowledge of Hand Ranges I'm not sure if this is in the right category. I want to say a had a semi epiphany yesterday while I was playing live poker. I always knew Ÿou need to "play against your opponents hand range" but I always tried to put them on a "hand" not a "range". After getting beat up bad on an AK 2 pair hand losing to a set, I really thought about what I did wrong which was I played my cards not taking into account my opponent's calling range on a PFR. I reloaded and went to another table and that is when I really starting focusing on what range people were playing. Once I started doing this it was amazing how much easier the game became. I actually still ended up losing money for the session due to the AK hand but I gained a ton of confidence going into my next session because I saw how playing the other person's ranges is powerful. I was for the first time in my career able to get people to lay down winning hands. I am a new player, been playing for a year, and finally might be taking the next step. So to any new player out there learn the basics however it itsnt just about the cards you are dealt but about the "range of cards" your opponent is playing. Any feedback or further advice on this subject would greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

re: Knowledge of Hand Ranges poker It's a helluva lot easier to put an opponent on a range of hands rather than the exact hand. Unless of course your name is Daniel Negreanu and then you can not only know the cards they hold but the suit as well. Do you use a HUD or something like Pokertracker 3?

I didn't want to show exact hands for this thread. I only mentioned the one hand because its what made me really look inside me and see what I did wrong there. As far as huds go, I have used the trial versions of both HEM and PT3. They did help out some with me but I never really got to use there full potential in that short amount of time. I do see how they benefit players online and I will subscribe to one eventually and learn all the nuances. Which do you prefer? I thought about getting HEM just because of the Leakbuster you can add on. If you keep notes on players do you write down there range from each position? Thanks again
