In event #22 at the WSoP the Ladies NLHE there are no fewer than 4 Men playing in this event. I dont have an exact number yet but 3 guys have been eliminated and Shaun Deeb is still playing. The WSoP cannot ban them from playing supposedly Shaun Deeb lost a prop bet and is donating any winnings to a charity for womens causes.

Friday’s $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship is an annual event that brings out the best women poker players from all over the world. While each lady would like nothing better than to strap on the coveted gold bracelet that’s awarded at the end of three days, a great portion of the players are out to simply enjoy themselves. The atmosphere in the Ladies event is always jovial, and often times you can mutual signs of respect in this tournament that you wouldn’t normally see elsewhere.
For instance, on multiple occasions all of the players on their respective table agreed to halt play for bathroom breaks. When floor supervisors were called over to handle disputes, the players were very accepting of the rulings and usually settled differences with a smile.
In an event meant to be a brief reprieve from the steady grind of the WSOP, this year’s Ladies Championship took a drastic turn of the controversial type.
A few minutes before the tournament officially began, women poured through the doors en masse to grab their respective seats. Amiable banter was rampant, but before the cards hit the air, a few arguments broke out. The reason? More than a half a dozen men had also registered for the tournament, some in mocking fashion.
Shaun Deeb, a player liked and respected by many in the poker world, had recently lost a prop bet and was forced into the tournament. To respond, he playfully dressed up as a woman, and told all of his friends and the media that he was playing for a charity benefiting a female cause.
Other men simply entered the tournament completely by choice, whether it was to win money, a bracelet, or make a stand against events that segregate gender. The response by women was varying; Some laughed it off, others simply ignored it. The vast majority, however, seemed to be completely appalled by the fact that men had entered a women only tournament.
For obvious reasons, there’s no rule that states an entire gender can be banned from play for any legal poker tournament. While the Rio Casino, the media, and players themselves can apply an abundance of social pressure, there are no other barriers to entry.
The ramifications and subsequent penalties for players entering the field, however, are unknown. WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky guaranteed penalties forthcoming to all men who entered the field. “We will have our repercussions against any man that entered the ladies tournament. There are consequences for actions, and they’ll pay the price.”
Palansky later added that players may have their tournament eligibility suspended in the future, and lifetime bans were not completely out of the question. When asked, Palansky said, “Players with no class can have their services refused at any time.”
During the tournament, each eliminated man was serenaded with a boisterous applause, with the women standing in unison. Some of the men, assumedly embarrassed, quickly headed to the exits. When Shaun Deeb was sent to the rail, the eruption from the Pavilion room was deafening.
As mentioned previously, players in the tournament had quite different takes on the whole ordeal. Although the vast majority rooted against the males for obvious reasons, some didn’t see that big of a deal with the whole situation. A few women at Table 25 commented about how much of a pleasure it was to play with Deeb earlier in the day, and that he was truly doing it out of good fun.
Those who took the developments in stride may have had a qualm with some actions of one male player, however. During the middle of a hand, a man decided that it would be humorous to use a tampon as a card protector, placing it over his two hole cards. When a floor supervisor was called over amidst outrage over this incredulous act, the man was assessed a two round penalty for what appears to be having no sense of moral fiber.
Others didn’t see it that way. Maridu Mayrinck opined, “It was crappy to see women get knocked out by men. It just wasn’t right.” Kathy Liebert questioned the motives of such players, saying “Why play it? What are you trying to do? It seems like they’re just doing it for themselves.”
Whatever the opinion, you can be sure that this story won’t die for quite some time. It appears that the World Series of Poker was not amused with men entering the field, and if they have it their way, these players will be facing suspensions in the not-so-distant future.

If being suspended, potentially for life, is one of the potential consequences, why in the hell would any guy take the risk? It's not like they couldn't find another tourney/game. Sheesh, sounds stupid to me.
They should at least make all the men wear skirts.

TBH women's only poker events are a bit demeaning to women.

Women's only events are a spill over form physical sporting events where women are given separate events to give a level playing field because men posses greater physical prowess. That's not to say its inconceivable that a woman at the top of her field could ever beat a man at the top of his, just that in physical contests the top end would always be dominated by men because genetically men are that bit stronger and that bit bigger.

Now poker is a mental game, a womens only event basically sends out the message that women are less able to compete mentally than men, i.e. women are a bit less clever. I have always been led to believe that intelligence is level playing field and that men and women are equals in terms of intelligence. These events give the impression that that is not the case.

Ok I was waiting for a few other responses before I chimed in. I think that giving men a penalty for plyaing in a women's tournament is not right. It's funny that in US most everyone wants gender equality, which I agree with but you can't have it by having a womens only tournament. If there were a Men's only event I would gurantee that women such as Vanessa Selbst (sp?) Annie Duke, Kathy Leibert and a few others would want to play to show they can hang with the men. It happens in other areas such as sports, a high school will have baseball for the men and softball for the women and yet there is gonna be a woman that wants to play with the boys. Look at golf Mens tour and Ladies tour yet a few women feel they need to play with the men. I personally feel since you can't legally keep men from entering the tournament then don't have a woman's only tournament. I mean as the title says its just a matter of time until a 21 year old wants to enter the seniors only event and they will have to allow it as you cannot descriminate against age.

Another thing that just came up here in Ohio when they were setting the laws for the new casino's was they left out a diversity clause which I think is a good step. I'm not against racial equality either, but I am however against forcing a business to hire a certain number of minoritys to keep the business diverse. A business owner should be able to hire the most qualified canidates no matter what race they are.

My point in all of this. If you want equality for women and minoritys then you have to quit making seperate rules for them. Having women only tournaments is saying taht poker is a mans game and women cannot hang with the men which is BS. Same goes for diversity let the business hire the most qualified people rather than a few qualified people and then people just to make "quota" for diversity if a minority is qualified for the job then hire them if not then they shouldn't be hired just to make it even.

I wouldn't play in a women's only tournament because I think men are too smart to play with lol. It is just something fun for us to do together. You guys make way too much out of it.

I doubt if men have asked for a men's only event. If they want one there is no reason not to do it - and I would have no desire to try to play in it.

TBH I dont think men really want a mens only event, we like having women around.

I do think the guys who gate crash these types of events are being douches.

The only issue I have, and this isn't limited to poker events, is that if men exclude women its deemed sexist and encores the wrath of women's activists whereas when women exclude men it really doesn't cause that much of a stir, in fact when men point out how unequal it is it really just gets ignored.

I feel that the women activists have ruined alot, so I have no problem with the men crashing their events.
It sucks but it is everywhere, from girls in school wanting on the guys football team to women golfers crashing men's only tournaments.
It is actually quite sad. I fell both sexes should be able to have their own events if they choose, but women have thrown too many hissy fits and ruined it. jmo

I like how Dr Pauly sees it: poker relies on new players coming to the game all the time, women are half the general population but only about 1% of the poker population and anything that encourages more people to play is a good thing.

Interesting to note too that this issue has only come up again now that Jeffrey Pollack has been replaced as commissioner - there were never any men in the event during his reign and any who tried to enter were quietly dissuaded.

I wouldn't want to play in a men only tournament. It's nice to have a few ladies around so it's not just a freakin' sausage fest. That said though I think having ladies only tournaments isn't a big deal. If some guys feel like protesting about it then let them make fools of themselves. I think the people running the WSOP should be free to restrict entry to particular tournaments. There's plenty of tournaments for everybody to play you shouldn't have to crash one intended for a specific type of player. Hey they could even have black only tournaments and latino only tournaments wouldn't that be cool!? Then we wouldn't have to sit at the same table as people who don't have the same color skin as us... you could even have a "rich white women only" tournament! I hope someone from the WSOP reads this so they can start implementing my revolutionary ideas.

Yes. I like the promotional aspect of Women Only poker events. Encouragment is good. I think men who enter are douchey, but it's kinda smart exposure. I've read Shaun Deeb's name online, but never saw a pic of him until I opened this thread. Lame, but smart in a way.

However, I don't think the winner of the Ladies WSOP event should be awarded a bracelet. Make it a cup or trophy named after a pioneering woman in Poker. Something unique & different that also means something.

Also FYI: Not Nevada, but the state of California recently made "Women Only" poker events illegal. They can still call them "Ladies Events", but MUST allow men to enter if they so desire. I didn't know it was such a big deal until I read that a law passed.

If a guy wanted to make a big fuss about playing in a women's only event, he would be made of by everyone, women and men.

This is no baseball or no football, there is no difference between intellectual levels of men and women and thus a female only event is not promoting equality and actually gives off the subtle notion that women are intellectually infererior. Oh, btw, do you know why the female population in open events is only like 3%? Because there is a ladies event. Close the ladies event and most of them end up in other 1K buyins and the number goes up. Common sense. The female population will always be smaller because women are not degenerates
