JUst A Story
As many of us has been hit hard by the recent recession it has had the affect of lessening those things that many of us enjoy and are wiling to pay for the viral experience they illicit. Whether it is something like skiing balls out down a cool Colorado mountain in January or putting that occassional $50 bucks a week in their online poker account with the same high hopes and exhiliration as the skier who plunks down several thousand for the week eagerly doles out.
But like many of you I lost/quit my job in July and my days of casually dropping $50-100 a week in my Bodog, PokerStars or Full Tilt account. In a career spanning 400 tournments I have slowly, and I mean slowly started to get some semblance of polish to my game. It has only taken 600k hands to even feel slightly comfortable but without a steady paycheck and a child to support my meager income did not allow me the ability to squander a cent on the extras in my life ie; online cash poker. So I immersed myself in the mired muck of Freerollin. What a suckers situation. Imagine starting to develop a game against some of the better tourney players then like that because my banksroll management went down faster than Bernie Madoff's investment scheme I was in Bust OLA ville. For a poker player that is like wanting pussy and being stuck in Parump Nevada. YIKES!!! I toiled and came close to hitting the money in a number of freerollers but for a cash guy like me they are empty exercises against those who do not belong at the same table as you and constantly win with a 5-5 against AK. It is stupid poker where the contestants get dropped off wearing helmets from one of those short buses. I needed cash. But little did I know that those thousands of worthless hands against idiots taught me some lessons. Mid November---Cash is really becoming a scarce commodity in my life. I have $1.60 in my bodog account and a boil developing right at the tailbone of my ass. Safe to say I am not a comfortable cat by any means. I decide to enter Bodog's step above a freeroll $1 tourney. 98 brave souls enter all with the hope of claiming top prize and a whopping $28. 3 hours later I exited with a sixth place finish, a sore ass, and a minor jolt to jump my bankroll up to a robust $7.85. Tires, the whole ass thing, I retired to sleep aided by some xanax and the knowledge of another day. The next day i wake up and amazingly I had no real urge to play poker. But when I did it was profitiable. Doubled up with KK against some bluffing fool on my very first hand gave me $14. I left 1-0 made a fried egg sandwich then to make a long story short entered a $2,000 turbo came in 8th won $70 then my very next tourney on friday entered a 6-handed for $11 on the Dawg with 110 people and got a 2nd for $243. And that was it... I cashed out for $270, I must admit I pissed like $40 back not really caring like any respectible poker player would, and just got my check tonite. Thank you god. Thank you poker. Have a happy holiday's Rounder's all over. Hope the story didn't bore you. Kind_bud_rocks Bodog |
