just lost my freeroll bankroll

I won 7 bucks in a razz freeroll, and got it up to 57 dollars, but then i went on tilt and messed it all up... soo now i have zero... i hate playin freerols tho cuz they take too long and I can only do the ones late at night... I dunno what I'll do, I can't take play money seriously.... I'm pretty good but I just made poor desicions one morning and now its gone, but I really enjoy playing with actual money, because people play better and are more serious about it.

I have a solution for you:

Deposit some money into an account and then... and here's the clincher...you can play with REAL money!!

Better read and understand the bankroll management section first.

I was thinking "freeroll bankroll"? Why would one need a bankroll for freerolls... let me enlighten this poor person.

Hmm...Well, if you think you're good enough to play for real money then you should absolutely deposit some into your account and give it a shot. If you don't have enough money to do that I simply don't know how to respond, freerolls are going to be your only other option. Nobody would rather play for "play money" than the real thing, but if you truly enjoy the game and want to get better I would suggest doing so. All players who make money playing this game have learned to overcome the tempation to chase, or steam after taking a tough beat, it's the only way to be successful in the long run.

Going through another FR to get a FR Bankroll is your punishment.

I hate to break it to you, but $7 is about zippo as far as a bankroll for almost any game out there except Nano Limit 1/2 cent Limit games or 10 cent Tourney's and Sit n Goes. Read the Section on Bankroll Management and you will get an idea why.

My thought is you do what most everyone else does when the win freeroll money. They think because the picked up some bucks. Whether it be 25 cent or $25 dollars that they have proven themselves to be a good player.

They immediately hit the no limit ring games and play exactly like they do tournaments.

There are several problems here.

One, winning or placing well in one freeroll does not all of sudden make you a good player. Most likely you got lucky.

Two, good tournament strategy and good ring game strategy are 2 different animals. You need to adjust to each accordingly.

Three, as said before, $7 isn't squat for a bankroll.

If you go and play even the lowest limit NL ring game the max buy in for 1/2 penny NL is like $2. You got buy in for the Min. But, unless you are a good short stack player this is not a good idea.

So, you buy in for $2 giving you a bankroll of 3 1/2 times the buy in as a bankroll. I don't think anyone here on the forum will tell you that is a good idea. Sure you can start with that and suceed. But, you have to be a very good player to do that.

Just because you made it up to $57 dollars does not make you a good player either. Heck for all we know you found the largest NL ring game and got lucky a few hands and made it up to $57 in a a few hours. Perhaps it took you longer because you stayed at smaller limits. But, then feeling unbeatable you moved up levels thinking since it was so easy you could make even more money at higher levels and then lost it all on a few hands. Perhaps you only moved up one level and came across a table of better players and were handed your hat.

The point I am trying to get across is that you need to realise there is just to much varience in the game to expect a small amount of money like you have to whether the ups and downs of the game.

Solution. Either deposit and start with a proper bankroll. Or, keep playing freerolls and fight the temptation to play rings games until you build up enough of a bankroll to play at the limits you can afford with a PROPER bankroll.

first off I want to say congrats on winning a freeroll there are so many donk's on those so I think you did good just on that alone.

I know it's a bummer when you have no bankroll left but you can always signup and hope to win another freeroll or deposit money in your account.

I am doing the FR Bankroll on UB. I won $4 in a 6 hour Freeroll. I played the .01/.02 micro games and got ate up (got up to $11 then down to .75) because people play any old crap when its just a penny. I took my .75 and when to a .50 + .05 SnGs.

People played better there... mostly. I built my Bankroll back up little bit by little bit. Hit a few snags here and there.

But after about 6 weeks I haven't lost it all and am at a little over 5x what I started with after a bad run at the BJ tables.

Just play smart.

I've been where you are, Rad. It's frustrating, especially for people like me who don't have a credit card and can't deposit money online. I don't even have time for freerolls anymore, so I'm stuck with play money. But it's fun to win play money all the same. Unfortunately I'm so busy now I haven't been able to play in about two weeks.

And after about 20 donks and 1/2 my roll later I am at about where I was 2-3 weeks ago.

I'll try not to play anything other then tourneys on weekends for now on.

Maybe I am not great, but I know that I spent about two weeks getting to 57 dollars, not an hour like one of you suggested. I know that 7 is hardly anything. But it was a start.

Great job getting to 57 dollars, but read all of the great posts about bankroll management and maybe you can get it to $10,000 like chris.

I guess I half-way know how you feel. I placed in the money in a freeroll and got $2.98 (which is just enough to play at low stakes games) and eventually got that to $22 in about 3 days. However, I didn't study bankroll management enough and the next 2 days it plummeted to $0.98

I had to start playing freerolls again and made something of a similar mistake to a much more minor degree. Now I have $2.12 but I'm not going to play any ring games until I build it up by freerolls to at least $40.

I know that's A LOT to try to get through freerolls but I'm going to follow Chris Ferguson's tips as best as I can and, eventually, hopefully, become much more successful.
Remember: Buy in for less than 5% of your total bankroll if you want to guarantee not going bankrupt(Chris' advice).

Im pretty sure Credit Cards arent the only way, i talked to Full Tilt about this, you can go through Net Teller and such with your bank account.

Or purchase an All-Access "gift" card from any local Wal-Mart or big box store. It works on almost all sites. I just used one to deposit on Bodog last night.

It sounds like you have thought this through as to what you may have done i am myself,in this learning as i go,making a zillion mistakes,building myself a bankroll as well. I don't have millions,but I am slowly working it up.I do fair i think. I know I definately have a ways to go on my bankroll,but I am proud of what I have in it.I'm too spooked to play big tables yet,as my skills would not be a very good thing on these tables.I'd be swollowed up quickly!....but be proud of what have accomplished,tighten up,play freerolls until you have built up some $$ good luck to you as you go on your way to building up let me know how ya' doing every so often

Bankroll management applies in a restricted way with miniscule bankrolls. You do have to play underrolled until you manage to build it up, but, if it's all you've got, there's no point not playing until you freeroll it up to a higher amount.

My first cash bankroll started from a freeroll. I lost it all playing at the cheapest cash tables partly because I was playing too tight with scared money; I was afraid of losing what I'd worked so hard to earn. Same thing happened the second win, but the third one I managed to slowly build, eventually up to around $200 before it dropped some and then I cashed it out. By then I'd made a deposit at another site that became my main playing site.


If you look at Chris Ferguson's project you'll see the slowest grind is at the early stages which is why if you are ready to play it'd be a lot less frustrating to make a deposit to get you started, plus most sites offer first deposit bonuses. If you choose not to make a deposit, then just be patient. Very, very patient.

I think that if you turned 7 $ into 57$ which is a little over 8 times your 7 dollars....you should do well in real money......you should just try 50 dollars i mean think about it 8 times 50 = 400$ a lot more than 57$

Perhaps the OP doesnt have a credit card or cant afford to deposit money at the moment.

Let me guess- OP should deposit about $500-$1000 dollars and aim for a .75-$1.50/hour profit, right?

thanks for recognizing my situation philthy, I don't have the money to deposit and I do not want to risk my own money that I do have. I feel that if I am going to make money playing the game, I should be able to do it without depositing, like Chris Ferguson. I should not give money to the website and better players if I am not actually good and I just get lucky.

I might be good though, but just go on crazy tilt. Once I get money, I play too high stakes! It's my downfall. I used to think I was disciplined, but thats really all what poker is people. Discipline is the reason why Ferguson is making bank. I guarantee you there are many more thousands of players that are good than make money.

That's why I am not committing to a deposit.

If I am good, I will prove it by staring from scratch.
If I am not good, I shouldnt be playing this game.

Congrats dude on taking down some money in a freeroll, and it sucks you lost it all. I have been very close to your situation.

I traded some some play chips for $1, and worked it up to $58 in a about 2 months. I got it as low as $.13, but I was at the tables and just grinded it back up to the min to play the .01/.02 ($1).

So in saying this I am trying to tell you. You cant play scared. Once the money is in the pot it is not yours. I have just played the .01/.02 tables all the way up and havent played any higher tables yet. Dont make crazy moves or some special move, because people at the micro limits wont pick up on this. But you can mix it up a tiny bit and if you hit you will get paid. You must have patience because grinding a roll up from $1, or $7 in your case is very time consuming, as it would be with building any type of roll. Dont be frustrated. If you lose a BI, then just leave the table and take a day or so off as you dont have much money to lose. Talk to people about poker, read about it, watch it, STUDY it, and practice.
