It's a love hate game For your pocket - What hands(s) do you like to see a flop with and which hand(s) do you hate getting? I've seen threads like this before and everyone says AA, KK, AK... we ALL love those. I'm talking about the odd-ball hands. When I say "love", I'm talking about the crappy hands that we all get that for some reason we have an attachment to and try to see the flop if we can. Personally... Love: 8-3 [also K-4] Hate: QQ

For me...I dislike medium to small suited connectors. Yea, I know that Doyle says that they are his favorite hands. I used to play them religiously if I could see a flop cheaply. But, I kept a record for several months and the best I usually got on the flop was top pair...with a lousy kicker, of course. Now, I will only play them in the Blinds.

I hate hands like Q,J and K,10 - you know the hands that are decent enough to play when you're in late position and everyone limps. A lot of times, unless I'm in a blind, I'll fold them no matter how good the pot odds for calling are. I almost always get into trouble with these types of hands - you know, flopping top pair with a mediocre kicker or flopping an open ended straight draw only to not catch it.

I like small pairs (22 - 66). I only play them in late position to an unraised pot (or from BB if I get the odds to do so) but when you hit trips it's such a well disguised hand you can nearly always get paid well. Hate QJ / KT. I feel I have to play them in late positions when all before me have limped, but usually get me into trouble.

re: It's a love hate game poker I have a new most hated hand, it's A rag when in the big blind. Whenever I get it now, I cross my fingers hoping for a PFR raise so that I can fold the damn thing because they are getting me into so much trouble. I seem to hit an A on the flop an uncanny number of times, and hate check / calling so usually bet (unless there is a passive player following me, in which case I'll check / fold) but almost invariably end up getting outkicked. I'm tempted just to fold the damn hand on the flop if I don't get trips or better.

I honestly am not attached to any hand. I play each hand how I think it should be played. But after playing the 72 game (HSP did it, only they did $500 each, we did 50 cents each. Basically if you win a hand with 72 everyone has to pay you 50 cents), 72 is my favorite hand. I not only was able to win with it twice (tight image helps), but also got a 72 to throw in $10 to try to take the pot when I flopped my straight. |
