Interesting article. I have heard poker players talk about bots for a long time now and I was never sure if they every existed. This article confirms it. Honestly I dont think they should be allowed in online poker, if poker sites find them they should be removed. I dont want to play bots, its hard enough trying to beat good players.

re: Interesting Article on Poker Bots its totally bull crap high stakes medium stakes yes it not possible to make winning bots but program something for low stakes and put it on lots of low stake table with basic hand selection rules etc and I am almost certain you could make several thousand $ a day especially since the thing could play well over 100 tables at once though such may ring alarm bells certain human players have managed to play 30+ tables before and I have done as many as 25. Do you really think I do anything complicated no. I get some basic reads etc but generally nothing I do at this level couldn't equally be done by a bot.

| I haven't read the article (yet) but yes for sure there are bots in online poker (you just have to search them on the internet and you'll find a few that are available to purchase - - they are mostly junk, promising only a very small +ROI% winrate and only at super micro stakes turbo SNG's (where it's mostly push/fold anyways). I read up on them out of curiousity and from what I read, they all seemed like junk. Not sure if I've ever been on a table with one,... I'd welcome the oppurtunity. Quote:

Interesting read. This is one of those topics that I'm so one-sided on that I can't believe there is an opposing viewpoint. Bots should not be allowed, especially if they are not identified as such. Greenstein's quote was the most surprising part of this article: "I believe that poker sites should allow bots, but only on clearly defined tables. Players should know who the bots are, and have the choice if they would like to play them or not," says Greenstein. While I agree that I should have the right to know if I'm playing against a person, whose game is not pre-programmed and may be changing slightly based on what happens in the game, or essentially playing against a calculator, I do not feel that bots should be allowed! If bots are to be allowed, they do need to be identified as such. But I don't feel they are good for the game in principle.

If you think about it there CAN be some bots out there that aren't detected and makes a decent profit. There are people who are gifted enough to outsmart poker rooms but they are most likely doing other things that are more profitable. Its just gonna be an epidemic so bots will never be allowed in online poker.

If a bot can be programed to make correct decisions, it should be easy to teach a human to be a winning poker player. However, most players lose money. If you could figure out the rules the bot was using, you could exploit the bot. It looks like there are probably more bots playing limit than no limit.

Bots have been a problem for over 2 years. Mostly on FT but majorly on Ultimate Bet... you can tell just by the way they bet that they are a bot... but id rather play a bot then a real good player... That's my two cents... Moe.

re: Interesting Article on Poker Bots A well-programmed, private bot could potentially be devastating to online poker games. It could read from a virtually unlimited database of hands and situations which it has seen you play before, track things like the exact amount of time you take between betting when you have it vs when you don't, and a myriad of other things humans are incapable of doing. The bots that are out there being sold to the public are garbage. The ones you need to worry about are the ones you've never heard of.

People used to say that you could never write a chess bot capable of playing at the highest levels, and here we are today with software that can run on a home PC and demolish grandmasters with ease. It would be crazy to think the same thing wasn't capable of happening in poker! There's a research group here in Canada who solved Checkers, and have moved on to poker - certainly worth a look. http://poker.cs.ualberta.ca/

| This is the first i have heard of a poker bot. If they are alowed then i would definatly want to know i am playing agenst a bot, that would be fine.it is like playing poker in the casino.the dealer has rules that they follow.same as a bot .i play on line because of the human factor and would be very pissed off if i found a bot was playing at my table.
