| I'm a very good winning player but I have serious tilt and BR management problems In real life live poker I just play for fun and play microstakes. Online I play bigger stakes and my main motivation is money, but I have bad bankroll management skills and sometimes go on tilt if I'm running bad. And both of these problems are costing me a lot of money. For example I once got 2nd in a rebuy tournament last fall and got a ton of money, took a two day break, then started playing again and was running extremely bad for days in a row. I got cocky and decided to move way up in limits and started playing $100 sngs, looking back I should have just moved up to $50 sngs. Then I went on major tilt and lost like $3000 over the course of a few weeks my game was just completely off and I was always convincing myself the other guy was bluffing and made bad calls. Any1 have any advice? |

| This may be harsh, but bankroll and tilt management are part of being a winning player, not optional extras. If you don't have them then you are not a winner. Don't measure yourself by your A game, but by your worst game. Getting this straight in your head will be the first step in solving the problem. Good luck matey, Rex |

| well if ur tilting and u see urself becoming a calling station/ playing badly , u need to take a break, take 2 hours to regain ur cool and start over again, and it seems like u moved up way higher than u were prepared to do ur BRM is up to ur disgretion and if u cant control urself well ur only going to lose ur roll very often the key to stoping these problems is SELF CONTROL |

| they all have it right but rex hit the nail on the head . you can't be a great player if you have serious tilt and BR management problems. you may play very well sometimes but not near the same thing . read or reread some of your books or tips here during your tilt breaks . good luck ben you're still the man. |

Anyone can win a few pots, but you are not a winner if you don`t win over the long term. There is a lot of stuff here on CC about BR management, but the basics are very simple: 1) Never invest more than 5% of your Bankroll in any single Game or Tourney. (Exception - if you are really strapped for cash and 5% won`t buy in to the smallest game, stretch to 10% for ring games only.) 2) Don`t move up until your roll has grown enough to buy in to the next higher limit game on the same 5% basis. 3) If hit a downswing and your roll shrinks to less than 20 buyins, drop down a level until you recover. 4) When you have achieved success and built up a good bankroll so that you can comfortably play at a reasonable buyin, tighten up still further and limit yourself to 2% of your bankroll for tournaments. Tournament variance is higher, and this will ensure that any long dry spell does not do serious damage. |

You're only as strong as your weakest link, and BR management as well as tilt are two BIG links in the chain that is...your poker...skill level... ok enough with the bad analogies from me. Read some books that deal with tilt - Zen and the Art of Poker is one that should help. These are books that don't deal with anger management etc, but rather put poker in perspective to give you an idea of what to expect from it. Anyways I can't stress BR management and tilt control enough - they're probably the two biggest skills you need to have to be a successful poker player. |

| re: I'm a very good winning player but I have serious tilt and BR management problems poker First Step as most of these people said is admitting you are a good player . because you arent without all the pieces and one is Tilt Control and Bankroll managment. Once you accept this you can learn from your mistakes. |

| re: I'm a very good winning player but I have serious tilt and BR management problems poker Nothing like a Bentheman thread. Especially when you throw in a little NWF to boot. What a great way to get 50 posts randomly reviving old threads that needed no further comment 1 day after they were started. Sweet! |
