Im Going For It

I posted a topic earlier about whether I should play 25NL or stick to 5.50 S&Gs with my 150 dollar BR. Right now, my BR stands at 192.54 and I have decided I am just gonna go for it. If I go broke, then I go broke, but I feel like I have a decent chance at succeeding at 25NL. I will be posting my results here to keep me on task. If I drop down to say ~100 dollars, I may have to rethink what I am doing, but hopefully it doesnt get to that. Wish me luck.

Ive played underrolled b4 and I plan on hitting and running quite frequently. It has worked for me in the past

Well I'm not sure what tb's raising range was PF at this table (I've seen play on both ends of the looseness spectrum from him ), but your check behind on the flop is pretty much telegraphing two unimproved overcards. You're inducing a bet from a huge range of hands there.

RR preflop usually indicates pair/big ace. The only hands that are checking behind on that flop out of the two of those, are the overcards, or big aces.

Just played a 64 hand session:

Starting BR: 203.49
Ending BR: 209.99

+6.50

Nothing too interesting. Had a few maniacs at the table, but never could catch a hand against any of them. They ended up giving their stacks away to others at the table. Racked up some nice FPPs from all their crazy moves.

Good luck with this BW. FWIW I think your a little under rolled for this level. If things do go bad, then don't be put off from dropping back to $10NL. YOU MUST NOT GO BROKE! I really hope it works for you mate.

Good luck, personally I would never invest more than 10% of your total bankroll on one table. . . but thats just me.

Hope you win a ton of money and share your victory stories.

Good luck at your tables

Don't do it...you are making a huge mistake. Take your time and build a BR. You will go broke doing this. Maybe not right away but this will set a trend that you cannot break.

I am not totally committed to this, as I said above if I drop to 100 I will have to reevaluate and I will probably go back to $5 S&Gs. I have been thinking of playing 10 dollar S&Gs until I get my roll a little higher, but I am barely rolled for these and I have been playing my best at 25NL. My play has not been the best in S&Gs lately, I just get too impatient, I like to play hands. In S&Gs you have to fold, fold, fold early. Its just not for me.

I really cant explain it, very strange thing that happened I was just kind of pissed for no reason and bam down 30 dollars. Call preflop is terrible, calling the all in is terrible.

I thought it was the 5 dollar S&Gs that was making me bored, but I really havent had fun playing poker in the last few weeks no matter what I play. I dont know what to do.

I went through this a while ago. For me it was that I was playing too much and putting too much pressure on myself while I played, with some pretty unrealistic expectations of where I should be.

Take a step back, take a break and really assess why you're playing poker. It's a true grind when you're not enjoying it.

Hey this is funny I have posted a similar topic hehe. No disrespect but the play you make in that hand is dire. Winning long term poker requires discipline. I believe you can learn this playing at the very lowest limits of cash games, I built the bulk of my winning game at NL2 and it taught me great patience.

You mention possibly being bored of poker, maybe take a week off?

Don't play when you're not in an optimal frame of mind, bw.

- Take a break from playing
- Try some different types of games (ring/STT/MTT)
- Learn a new game (limit/stud/omaha)
- Make up a short term target as a challenge (pretend your bankroll is only $25 and try to see where you can take it)

Or, any combination of the above. It's not much fun when it's not fun, and the losses are magnified in frustration level.

Ive moved back to S&Gs. I took my shot and it didnt work. After the bad play up there I thought I played good earlier and lost a good portion on a nasty cooler (posted it in brags and beats). MY BR was down to ~130 and I decided that I didnt feel like losing my whole BR in a week. I played a 10 dollar S&G and won earlier, so I am back up to $172 dollars. Havent decided yet, but I might start playing the 10 dollar S&Gs full time. I am nearly rolled for them.

I am also going to stop multi tabling. It was just becoming too stressful and tedious for me (even multi tabling the 5.50 S&Gs). I think this was part of the reason I wasnt enjoying it as much.

k check this out. any time you move up you put added stress on you and play, temporarily, at a lower skill level. moving up when you're "almost rolled" makes this an even worse idea due to increased pressures. wait until you're over rolled for it, and then move up.

Very good point. It really does make sense to be patient with BR's. It must be The most important issue I think there is to learn in poker. Bankroll management must not be overlooked, ever. Sure you can take shots, and you may get on a good run of variance and increase your bankroll that way. However for the majority of poker players, sound bankroll management is the key to successful, sustained play and $$$.
