I "would have" hit my Royal

Just wanted to share this with you all. It's part of a ridiculous string of luck I've had lately where nearly every other marginal hand I fold ends up being quads, a full house, straight, or in this case... a royal flush, whereas every strong hand (or marginal hand) I end up playing gets either outright cracked or simply second best. Trying to ride out the wave, but it's getting ridiculous.

I know that I can't call an AI two rounds into a tournament with KQo so I know it's the right decision. But it's still frustrating me a little bit. I need to get my bankroll up to where I can migrate out of the .25 cent tourneys because people just aren't playing poker. They're playing "who can All In the fastest." Can anyone tell me if the dynamic changes in the $1 tourneys, or do I still have some plowing to do?

Sorry about your frustration, though! It is tough to see a board that would have made your (relative) junk into a huge hand, especially in a big pot.

Generally speaking, focusing on what would have happened had you made the obv bad play, as opposed to say, focusing on what the players in the pot are doing, is a sure fire formula for failure.

This is why I don't fold picture cards.....ever

^^^This. Don't concentrate on how your good fold would have won the pot, you'll lose more of these kinds of ai's pf then you will win. If you don't fold a winner from time to time then you are playing too loose. And yes, you still have some plowing to do. Chin up though, congratulate yourself on playing well and keep it up!

u made a good fold and you just have to learn to not let if get to you. Just yesterday i was dealt a Q 10 and folded when i faced a big raise in front of me, i would have ended flopping quads. Just play smart and eventually you'll do good enough in a tourney to get out of the .25 tourneys where people go all in every hand

You keep playing good poker and don't worry about what could have been. The $1 tournies are a little better but only because the AI donkies dissapear in 15 minutes instead of 30-45 minutes

$1 tourneys aren't much better, especially with a large number of players. The hyper-aggressive players try to build up their stacks by getting lucky over the first 10 hands. They then settle down and play poker, or else they give back their chips and are gone in short order.

You clearly made the right play in folding. If you take it personally every time the community cards would fit nicely with our own, you'd go nuts. Really we'd be better off not even watching the hand after folding, except you need that information to size up the other players.

Thanks everyone for the kind words of advice. It's just what I needed to hear, because I'm feeling a bit demoralized after what is my first official bad run. For my first two months I had been running solid. Not miraculous, but a steady move upwards. I turned 5 dollars into over 30 in less about 150 buyins.

But for the past 100 tourneys I just haven't been able to turn a profit, and I've just lost a lot of ridiculous pots where my KK or AA get cracked over and over, and I'm having a hard time folding what ends up being second best hand. Thanks to bankroll management I'm breaking even, but I guess I got a little spoiled by what was a pretty solid first run.

I can see that I need to work on my anti-tilting abilities, because once a big hand gets cracked, I just can't even think straight, and throw away other opportunities. I'll get back on the horse starting on tuesday, for CC's next FT freeroll. Until then I'm taking a break and cooling off. Thanks again for all the advice, best of luck to you all.

Really, where do you play and what are your site names.

All small stakes tourneys are nightmares. People are going to shove and shove and shove in all of them. FTP Daily Dollar is the worst, its full of allin ever hand for about 1 1/2 hours. The best thing to do in small stakes tourneys is to sit out for a while then you do not have to see that the all in donk made you fold a royal flush or whatever.
