I will be heading to vegas oct 1st

hello everyone, come october 1st me and the wife are making our first trip to vegas,does anyone know the best tourneys to enter,and at which casino,and do I need to rent a car or rely on public transportation?I wil be staying at ny ny hotel and casino I just foundout they don't have a pokeroom,please someone help me with some advice thanks mgb 63

dude, vegas is sweet, i was there in june. the mirage has a very large poker room with a lot of people playing. as for tournaments, i'm not very sure, but i'm sure there's always something going on. I won a bunch of money on 3/6L so i'm happy. also, you don't need any form of transportation. it's like a 3 mile walk end to end on the main part of the strip. if you get tired, you can hop on the bus for $2 one way. the only time i used the bus was visiting freemont st. and in that case, spend $5 and get the 24hr pass. any other questions, just let me know

If you don't mind walking, there will be plenty to do and see withing walking distance.

If you want to hit many casinos all over town (or make a trip to Hoover Dam for instance) you might want to consider a cheap rental car. This would especially be prudent if you can get a car cheaply in a package deal with your air fare/hotel and it will be available upon your arrival at the airport.

A cab trip to and from the airport will total $40 or more, plus tip.

Cabs will be $10-$20 each way (plus tips) for trips of any distance. This can add up quickly if you're taking cabs multiple time a day.

Every casino has valet parking (usually free but tipping is expected) but the traffic can be unbearable, especially if you aren't familiar with the area.

I guess it comes down to personal preference. Let the cabbie drive and pay a bit more or do the driving yourself and save a bit.

Unless you want a car for sightseeing or skipping from casino to casino, my recommendation would be to wear comfortable shoes (no flip-flops) and hoof it.

Being a long time veteran of Vegas...I would say a car is absoltely unnecessary unless your wife is very high maintance

The tips and waits at most of the major hotels valets make Cabbing, Monorail, Trolly, Bus, Walking the perferred method of getting around all the strip joints.

Across the street at the MGM is the monorail station.

You can take a limo from the airport for pretty cheap, waiting for you and the wife might like it (PM me if you want a service)

Otherwise if you want a little cheaper you can take a shuttle service that trades a lower price for several stops (but NYNY would be one of the first I think).

Also, if you want some smaller MTTs at a smaller price--Ballys and Paris offer nice little multiple Tournys everyday.

As someone else said, allvegaspoker is the best place to do your tournament planning.

What sort of buy ins are you looking at?

Off the top of my head Mirage tourneys have pretty poor structures, or at least are expensive for what you get. The hotel does have a really nice vibe to it though.

Some of the Ceasars tournaments are good (from about $70). Same goes for TI (about the same buy in) TI headhunter for about $125 is really good fun as well. Sahara has the best cheap tournament in town.

The best one I played in was the $150 at the Venetian. Would have been even better if I could have hung around for another 6 places or so (went out 15th)!

If you do your research on tournaments up front it makes for a much better time. You end up playing all in or fold after the first 30 minutes otherwise.

I think I paid $13 plus tip for a taxi from the airport to the MGM in March. $40+ seems a lot. I used the deuce for getting around, taxis if I was going somewhere specific or too drunk or tired to face the deuce. Surely driving would limit your consumption of Corona?

I'm very jealous and will now be spending all day tomorrow at work working out whether I can afford another trip to LV before the end of the year.

My estimate of $40 was for a cab to AND from the airport (round trip).

Was guessing about $16 fare and $4 tip each way.

I don't know if you can still get a car in a package deal for $20 per day, but if so, a cab to and from the airport would pay for 2 days.

Shuttle busses are cheaper, but as already mentioned, make several stops along the way.

If you are first time visitors, this is actually OK, as you'll get to sight-see a bit on your way to your hotel.

Bottom line, if you're only going to shuttle to and from the airport, and take a cab once a day or less, and don't intend on using a car for sight seeing, skip the rental.

gl in vegas .been there 5 times in the last 9 years. love the place almost bought a house there. anyway, i agree to you should get a car with your air-fare hotel deal. idrove 4 four times and rented once. you need a car to go from the new strip to downtown which is a few miles apart. a trip to hover dam or grand canyon is close. los angles is 4 hours away. so, a day trip is reassonable. the slots are ok but stick to poker you'll have better success. slots have a way to suck out your money. i was up then put it all back in. you didn't if you wre playing tourneys or cash games. there's a lot of tourneys under $100. have fun

gl over in sin city. Ive never been but just from reading Bluff I can tell you that from what I have seen, looks like the Luxor has the $22($20 rebuy) tourney M-F at 9am and mandalay has a 10am for $40 and thats the cheapest I found.rest of them lookmto be around $65 or so at just about any of them. just look in Bluff (at the back) to see a listing of all the tourneys and goings ons. it should help you plan and layout everything for you.

from the airport, you can take a bus, it's like $11 round trip, lot cheaper than taking a taxi. the imperial and the rio have really cheap buffets. the venetian has an indoor gondolas which is sweet, but also looks really nice on the inside. on a sad note, the roller coaster on the stratosphere is gone just some other kinda dumb rides.

These are the tournaments to avoid really. Next to no starting chips, 15 minute levels and the blinds double every level. All in fest from the first hand.
