The guy who wrote that blog has issues that go beyond his bad playing. His article remained me of those liberals who blame all of the world’s ills on the "establishment." I can't play poker and I loose lost my entire paycheck because I am an idiot, but it’s not my fault it’s the fault of the big poker companies because they forced me to play beyond my means (It's not fair boo hoo). There are too many poor people in the world It's the fault of the big corporations, It's big oils fault, Blame it on Bush lets forget that people make their own decisions, and create their own destinies. How about playing within your means, both financially and according to their skill? How about study the game and get better? It is easer to blame other rather then take responsibility for one’s own actions.

This guy is obviously an idiot who just doesn't know how to play. I also agree that the majority of people who play poker lose money, that's a given since the house is taking a cut. But to say that the poker companies are terrible for allowing people to gamble is absurd. I agree with him that investing your money's a good idea, I wonder how he feels about investing in poker companies...
I do think blaming a number of corporations, and Bush is legitimate though. A number of corporations use exploitative and illegal tactics to make their money, Bush has run up massive deficits to blow things up, therefore removing finished goods from the world as well as destroying the infrastructures these countries and it's citizenry need to produce goods and services. He's also underfunded the sciences and education creating a situation where you're losing potential future growth from those sectors, and why? To blow things up and kill people who could otherwise be productive. While I do believe killing some people and destroying some things can make the world a better and more productive place, not in the manner that Bush is doing. As for the oil companies there's some room for debate, as their product does help people become richer, but when you look at how big the health services sector is and how many people are getting sick and dying partially as a result of their product it becomes somewhat unclear the actual benefit. If you add tetra-ethyl lead into the equation which is associated with the industry, or the abominable behaviour of Shell oil in Nigeria, the track record for the industry's benefits is far below what it should have been. So while no one's more responsible for your own life than you, there are a lot of people and groups who are largely to blame for some individuals and groups being poor. Ask yourself how much better the word should have been if everyone in positions of power were responsible and ethical people, rather than a large proportion of people strictly interested in wealth and power. And ask yourself how many people would still be alive, happy, and productive members of society. So while people should take responsibility for their own actions, they should aggressively deal with the institutions and people who make the world a worse place. (You may say Bush was doing this, which he was, he just did it in a terrible, terrible way that was at least as bad as the problem.) |

I guess I should have known my post would get a response of this nature. What I was trying to say is that the writer of the blog in question reeked of one of those "antiestablishment" people who I loath. If somebody is continuously loosing at poker instead of blaming the poker companies, maybe he should quit or get better. Maybe it is true that the majority of players loose, but to most us poker is a every enjoyable and exciting hobby or entertainment like going to the movies or a sporting event, and yes a few do make a living at it, but not many. Are the poker companies making a living off some peoples gambling habits, sure, but so is Las Vegas and every state or county or church that uses a lottery system or bingo to raise money. My winning are relatively flat, I win some I loose some, but it is still fun and when I loose it is my fault or just my bad luck.
Now for the fun part As far as the dept Bush has supposedly run up, the US deficits has been running between 30 and 35% of the GDP (gross domestic product) since the late 70s. Bush has only been in office since 2001 so I don't see how he is responsible for running it up. In fact, the US ranks # 67 in counties of the world with the highest dept I think we are in good shape. If you are implying the war is running up the deficits, consider this; during WWII our deficit was over 100% of our GPD you heard that right over 100%! We spend more on wasteful programs like Social Security and Head Start then we ever have on military matters. Bush doesn't go around "Blowing things up" and preventing these countries from helping themselves. Iraq and Afghanistan were never productive countries, what a ridiculous statement. I guarantee they are much more productive now then 5 yrs ago (yes they have a long ways to go). The leader(s) of both these countries had repressive iron fisted rulers who didn't give a rats @ss about their peoples or their productivitie unless it benefited them or their cronies. Do a number of companies use illegal tactics to make money, sure, but I would be willing to bet the vast majority are not. Most of these 3rd World nations have crooked tyrannical rulers who don’t allow there nations to prosper. If big cooperation’s didn't move into countries like Thailand, or Taiwan where would they be right now? I will tell you where 3d world (although I will admit Thailand still has a ways to go, but they are modernizing take a trip to Bangkok if you don't believe me, I’ve been many times). President Bush is a strong leader who is doing what he thinks is right for our Country (or at least mine I don’t know where you are from France or Germany perhaps?) He is not going to make a decision that affects thousand and thousands of live based on how is decisions are going to change his poll numbers, like his predecessor did. Is he perfect? No is he bad for the world, H$ll no he’s not. I know this is not the forum for this kind of debate, so if you would like to email me I would be glad to debate you on the Evils of George Bush until the cows come home (really). |

Reading that guys article reminded me of so many arguments that Ive had with my parents about online poker. I know poker online is not rigged and I know i am a decent player. However, Ive felt those same things and feelings of hate towards the game so many times. Dont know the point of my post, I guess I can see both sides; while im contemplating my next online depsit lol.
