HU Poker - OMG!

if you glance at my profile, you'll see I enjoy HU poker. Well, tonight was fun.
I normally play $5 hu - backing off to $2 when feeling down and going up to $10 when feeling - well, big dicked.

tonight, I played a couple of $20.00 games. And hammered them both. The opposition was appalling!! I've faced tougher games in $1 matches. It may have just been luck or something but my opponents were loose and passive - a f'king dream at a HU table.

anyone else play HU and have similar/different experiences?

If my bankroll allowed it, I'd play $20 all the time!

this is good to hear, but remember: you will face tough opposition even at micro stakes. just keep playing your A-game.
also don't open fold AA.

I like to play HU more than other games but tend to see so many different types of players...the best thing to do is categorize thes players down to a few and then once in the HU match a good bit hone them down to one of the characters and use the best artilary and defense to beat them....

I love playing the 50nl HU game on stars. I know people will tell me the rake is insane, but it is still extremely profitable. Why you ask? Well because it is the lowest stakes they have, thus in FR and 6max the bad players may practice at 2nl - 10nl, if they want to play HU they have to play at 50nl or up. I've run into people stacking with bottom pair. A lot of people seem to take HU as a pride thing, showing themselves 1 on 1. So I'll show a few bluffs and soon you've got the other guy calling everything and anything just because it could be a bluff and they'll somehow lose their manhood (yes I know females play as well, this is just a generalization and I think you get the point) and look scared. So they'll stack off easily. If you can win a big pot, the rake isn't super insane, and when you're doing a lot of stacking yet not being stacked a lot, the profit is extremely high. And when you tilt someone and they keep buying back in is when it's the best. You know how to beat them and how to exploit their game, they're on super tilt, and they're throwing $50 onto the table every 10-20 minutes when you bust them. Took $150 off of one person who initially bought in for $20.

Yeah, I played a couple matches of $50NL heads up a while ago and it is pretty damn easy. I just made sure I didn't sit at a table against someone who already had a huge stack. If you pick your opponents carefully it can be very profitable, unfortunately by bankroll isn't even close to big enough to be playing that right now.

Right I try to pick a medium stack, $25-$30 or once in a while someone with a full buy-in, especially if it's a strange amount. A friend gave me this advice because a lot of people will only have this much on their account and be on tilt. They'll then try to double it quickly on the HU tables thus being way too loose and willing to stack too easily. The one problem is these types of players will definitely leave if they double up. So if you get your money in ahead and get sucked out on, you have no chance to win it back even though you're usually better than them and would take it back if they keep playing. Once in a while they will but usually you're playing until they've won a big pot or they've busted (or you get bored at the lack of big pots realizing that playing that way is not going to win anything because of the rake). But that's ok because first off it's not a full buy-in and second off there's another donk waiting to give you his money over at another table. But watch out, there are some really good HU players that sit there and wait. I've seen people with over $1,000 at the 50nl HU tables.

I saw a guy sitting with $4,500 at a 100NL heads up table. Maybe he was just sitting there for days on end but that is absolutely insane.

holy shit. But yeah, you see a lot of these people sitting out so it's possible he's been there for weeks, just sitting in when he wants to play. Still, winning $4400 at that limit isn't bad.

I'm the first to admit, this guy was battering me (if I believed in god, I'd say it was revenge for my earlier comments): raising, re-raising, making me doubt myself. Great player. I was just about hanging on.

I'm short-stacked and get the best hand I've had in a while and the blinds are getting high. Q7s - I go all-in. Not the best move I've ever made but it was a semi-bluff blind stealing attempt. Anyway, he calls and has 1010. aargh.

anyway, flop is blank, turn is Q and river is 7 (just to rub it in).

He goes off on one - calling me f'ing this and f'ing that and talking about a rigged site. I just smiled.

next two hands are blank and then I hit 77 and 33 both of which hold up against his all-in's and there's $10 extra in my account.

first time I've seen such a great player tilt so quickly and so badly.

Patience and a 'that's poker' attitude are clearly extremely important in avoiding tilt.
