How to play top two pairs? So I got screwed with this again, which probably means I don't know how to play it Its a full ring cash NLHE game and everyone folds to me on the small blind, I have AQ so I raise. BB re-raises me and I am convinced that he is doing this just because I have grown a reputation at the table for stealing blinds. So I call and the flop comes AQ6 This is a very good setup for me of course and I bet strongly and I get reraised again. How would you guys play it from here? Can it get any better than this? I called and proceeded to lose a lot of money to pocket 6's ... Not the first time I lose with top two pairs and when I do I seem to always lose big so not looking at how to play this particular hand but how to play with top two pairs. Thanks guys

Full ring? If it's microstakes that sounds what happens every day. 24/7 and don't beat yourself up too much about it. Just try to remember, there's always someone at the table who pushes crazy hard with any pair or with an A + anything. That's not counting the folks who play maniacally or just naturally think that Q/2 OS is the most beautiful hand in the world. Ya know what I mean?

re: How to play top two pairs? poker Keep playing the way you are, I think the odds of them hitting ther set is 1 in 6, you will win a lot more than you lose with those flops, you also had 4 outs for your full house.

Wow, I couldn't believe when I read this because the EXACT same thing happened to me on PS yesterday! And I do mean exact, with me holding AQ and the flop coming AQ6! The difference was that this was like the 2nd hand of a $3.40, 18-player NLHE SnG. I'm normally pretty passive in the early rounds of these to avoid the all-in maniacs. But in this case, I was really sure I had the best hand. I put in a nice PFR and was only called by one guy. He kept calling me after the flop and turn, to the point where more than half our chips were in the pot, then he went all-in. It honestly never crossed my mind that he could have pocket 6's. I put him on a pair of Aces with high kicker... maybe a King. When his pocket 6's were revealed, I couldn't believe it! Honestly, he should have never called my aggressive PFR with that hand... pocket J or Q maybe, but 6's? In my mind, that's a total donk play. You've got to assume that at least 2 over cards will come on the flop, meaning that those sixes need to hit a 2-outer to have a decent chance at winning. Well, this time he hit that 2-outer, but if I am faced with that situation again, I would likely play it the same. Fact is (like someone else mentioned), more times than not, people will be agressive with and Ace and anything . I have been shocked at some of the hands people have gone all-in with on PS!

This happens all the time. You bet pot if first and fold to a big reraise which almost always means a set unless you KNOW the raiser is very loose. If the other player bets pot first on flop just call. If he bets big again on turn I would fold. If he checks I check. If he checks on river you might as well check also, because if you bet he will probably reraise if he has a set or fold if your hand is good. You could make a small value bet but the reward ain't worth the risk. You may not maximize your winnings with this strategy but you won't lose all your money to the small set.

Chance of a boat w 4 outs post flop is 9% roughly, not good at all. |
