How much to toke? Not a brag post

OK so a miracle happened. I got a royal flush at my local card room a few days ago. It was a 1-2 NL game. The pot was about $250. $100 of that was my input.I had checked the turn after making a king high straight and the button shoved for my last $40. I gleefully called and watched in amazement as the dealer rivered me the ace of hearts for the royal. My first ever in live play. Yippee!!!
The bonus high hand payout was $500. Nice collect.
My question is: How much should I toke the dealer? I usually toke $1 for an average pot or $2 if the pot is big. I never said I was a generous tipper, the dealers love me for my personallity.

In the course of a normal 2/5 session, I'll toke anywhere from 10-40 bucks, depending.

So you profited $650 from this hand? In my happiness of picking up the unexpected extra $500, I'd probably kick the dealer $20, which is a lot by my standards. Typically $5 for a large pot is my max.

I think $20 is more than enough

Thanks for the honest responses folks. Looks like I fit right in the middle. I gave $10 at the time and then $2 for each subsequent win over the next hour that I played. Got set over setted by a man who claimed to be in his 92nd year, who slow rolled me to lose my stack of $250 but had the five bills in wallet when I left. Had I not lost my stack in this way I would have given more when I exitted the game. Big talk, eh?
I agree that 10% is too much to give in this instance.$10- $20 would probably be the norm. As a group, the players are already paying up to $130 per hour to enjoy the casinos amenities. That's before tipping!
I realize that "toke" has more than one definition, I used the word just to draw more attention. In old school casino lingo, the word "zukes" also means the same thing. Try using "zukes" instead of "tokes" in a crossword puzzle when the clue reads "Gaming House Gratuities"

Firstly, nice win!

I just have to say though because this bit made me cringe a little. Of course the dealers love you if you tip them, they have a job to be nice to you regardless but if you tip, they are bound to want you to think they like you more Don't kid yourself sonny jim that they love ya or even like ya (I'm not saying you don't have a nice personality either) I'm just saying and don't want this to come across as like I'm a knobhead or anything BUT....try to keep yourself level headed and look outside of the box in future where money and people are concerned when it comes to thinking your genuinely liked.

I know because I know a couple of dealers myself so know how it works but in a way (obviously completely different in terms of a dealer) they are like prostitutes in the sense of making you feel special, they earn money + extra money if they feel they can single one out to make them feel extra special, they will if it gives them that little extra.

I'm not saying all are like that by the way, but it's standard I guess, just like in a cafe/hotel and a waitress is paying you extra attention or making you feel comfortable.

Just treat them all the same and tip how much you are comfortable with tipping but don't feel the need to tip extra if you feel they are "loving you" for your personality.

Nice response ramdee, you are correct. I have no illusion that the dealers like me any more or less than the average punter. I am just their bread and butter, not the gravy.
In this particular casino all of the tips are pooled, so no dealer gets any more or less tips than any other regardless of his or her customer service skills... or dealing skills for that matter.
For this reason many of the dealers are indifferent to the customers and unfortunately they are often somewhat inattentive in their responsibilities. I.E. not paying proper attention to the game not "calling" the game adequately and thereby making preventable horrendous mistakes like dealing a "premature" turn or river card resulting in hands not playing out as they should have.
In this instance the dealer was one of the best in the place and I was thankful for that. Many times in this casino I have seen dealers screw up badly and then laugh it off in the face of the player being screwed. Certainly makes me want to tip less!
As players in a casino we should not have to "police" or babysit the dealers to prevent them from making unfixable errors. But in this place it is the norm.
Often you can identify that a player has a strong hand by the manner in which he watches the dealer, wanting to make certain that the dealer does not cause a hand altering disaster through inattentiveness. Unfortunate but true.
And ONaroll... half oz a week? I Wish!!!

I feel like i am a generous tipper.....so id probably give about 20 to 25 bucks just because of how everything transpired

When in a jackpot hand. Before the dealer can turn the river I try to get the whole table to commit to 10% tips if it hits.

For jackpots it's different for me. I agree with most all your posts except in the case of a jackpot.

I hate the vegas - style tipping...they pool all the tips and then split with everyone, pit bosses, cardroom managers, cashiers, etc....your dealer gets a tiny bit of the money u give..discourages me from tipping at all....follow him out to break and slip him a fifty
