How much studying do you do?

I've never really been one for doing much work on my game away from the table. I read and contribute on forums and watched some HU videos and that's all I've ever really done for away from table study. I've had a pretty bad downswing recently (as well as feeling like I'm not playing well and dropping like 10bi in ev in a session) so going to spend the last part of this month looknig over my db and trying to maximise my ROI and ready myself for move up to low stakes.

How much study away from the table do you do (in terms of percentage of poker time that is spent studying)? Also what do you feel the best method of study is?

I study hands after every session I play. Best way to improve your game is through coaching or talking with other players though since you get new thoughts / theories to analyze

I have heard, that the famous online player Dusty "Leatherass" Schmidt recommends 80 % : 20 % playing and studying. In the future i want to study more, i play way more than i study...

id say 30min to 1 hour a day would be a good amount. about what I do.

i have a bad habit of studying or shall i say replaying the last hand that knocked me out of a tournament over and over again. This isnt good on my part to spend so much time knowing that either a) i made the right decision and would do it again or b)how come i didnt see it coming when it was right in front of me.

Nice thread, i think i need to shift to more study time and drop out of a freeroll or two that are expendable anyway.

Not nearly enough, unfortunately. I spend a fair amount of time on here, but usually not in a deeply studying manner. I should do that more and get more involved in HA more often than I do. I tend to get bogged down in routine stuff, or spend time answering others questions that are often pretty easy stuff that they should know anyway. But, everybodys gotta start somewhere, so I don't mind that so much, but it does take time.

Outside if that, I'm just now getting back into my reading, or re-reading actually. I'm trying to set aside an hour a day for that, certainly no less than 30 min.

Analyzing my own hands/db away from the game is something that I spend far, far too little time on, and I really need to work on that. I can't remember the last time I actually analyzed any of my own hands/sessions.

I think I'm kind-of a victim of being satisfied with my game atm. Which is a bad thing 'cause if you're not learning and studying; you're falling behind.

Not nearly enough. I don't do any study at all really. I've read some books and I spend a fair amount of time here. It's something I've been thinking about alot lately. Really want to start working on my game but I'm not sure where to begin.

Study group of players in your same game....mtt , sng . 18 man ,45
set up a skype group and team viewer/mikogo
save hh of good games and bad.. deep run , out early. FT

still talk with the guys and coaches on skype a year later after... BF

p.s buy a pack of note pads to write down every thing (still have KC notes from years ago when he was my coach on playing rush tournament)

It's not just a matter of how much time you put in, but also of the quality of that time plus how significant whatever you're working on is to your game.

As for me, I put in enough work to continue being +EV as a low-level recreational player. The amount varies considerably since I do it when I don't have more immediate or higher priorities.

Not enough but thats about to change. When playing tournaments Id have CC on half the screen and the games above looking for juicy tidbits of advice and strategy. I did find some terrible plays after my first proper session review.. expensive flush chasing, calling flops OOP with open ended for too much. Mebbe Im a 16/9 fish.

I feel like reviewing your HH is the best way to go. Find somebody on here who is a more mature/profitable player than you and see if they will review with you.
