| This is a discussion that happens fairly often, and nobody's ever got any particularly good answers for it. The answers you'll see most commonly are: - Howard Lederer is one of the richest people in poker, probably worth many millions (mostly from being an owner of Full Tilt) - Barry Greenstein is a multi-millionaire, and while he obviously made a big chunk of his money playing poker, the majority of it is in property etc these days - Mike Matusow spends a lot of time swinging between millionaire and broke - Phil Gordon is rich, though maybe not as rich as you might think, and he was supposed to be rich before he started playing poker anyway NFI how accurate any of the above actually is. |

SOME very good online players can stand toe to toe with the pros, but not MOST AVERAGE players. |

| The three pros I'm friends with are comfortable. Not ultra rich, not middle class...maybe upper middle class, if this helps. These are older players not big-wigs, if you know what I mean. I know a few more casually...they're younger and more financially comfortable. not ultra famous, not has beens either. Just some younger WSOP ME winners and others. Of all the ones I know, it burns me to say it, but Kathy Liebert is the wealthiest. Urghhhhh |

Anyways, the net worth of most of the poker pros would be more closely related to their business savvy/investments than their poker playing ability. |

I read somewhere that Ted Forrest was a pretty big backer in forming the pro team so it's not too surprising to me that he's quite wealthy. |

Yes he made a buttload of cash, but not the swimming-in-it gazillions that some people assume. Or so the story goes. No bones about it, the guy's rich and he's a fairly successful donkament player - I'd trade places in a heartbeat. But is he a multi-gazillionaire? No, probably not. Quote:
Tournament winnings (the "career winnings" that I suspect Toolzz is referring to) are public knowledge, but they're very rarely what a player is actually "worth". |

| the thing that i wonder is if these players are makin all that money, who are they playing and getting all those wins from? i mean some people must realy suck at poker. i hope im not one of those guys that gets rich and loses it all to a pro. |

At the levels below that it'll mostly be people who have money to burn from business or whatever. And at the lower levels, it's everyday gamblers. A lot of these people, you have to remember, are gamblers, not poker players. Losing $10K playing blackjack or craps might be normal to them, and they're happy to risk losing that money without thinking twice about it. It maybe doens't even occur to them that people make a genuine living playing poker. Wannabe pros will play a big part too. They'll take money from one level to the next as well - they might be a winner at $2-$5, for example, but they'll go lose all that when they take a shot at $10-$20. Players who win big in donkaments then sit down in cash games that they don't have a hope in hell of beating serve much the same function. |

This is exactly right, that and the fact that the pros back each other in tournaments, My first cousin is Robert Williamson III or affectionately called in Vegas as Mr. Omaha, and his mother my aunt and neighbor, was telling me how him and about 10 other pros get "peices" of each other in big tournament to improve their chances of profiting from the tournament. He also gets endorsements and now owns a high end Jewelry buisness in Vegas. I just wish I could get him to email or call me back, probably thinks I just want a hand out, not the case, just a chance to talk game with him. I haven't seen him since my dad's funeral almost 5 years ago. But anyways, Pros money comes from more than just their poker game, sometimes, its someone elses game. |

| re: How much are poker pros worth???? ROFLMAO! She decided to treat me like crap when I moved in with Tom McEvoy, her ex. They had been split up for 5yrs+ but still, she thought it was a good idea to be a piece of crap to me, the 1st time and every time we were face to face and I have been nothing but cordial and polite. She has no social skills whatsoever. She had no reason to be so nasty to me, yet she was. What a jerk; 1st class jerk. Quote:
