How many hands in pokertracker to get a good read?

Roughly how many hands are needed for the information provided by the HUD on opponents (VP/PR/AF) to be useful?

Is it fair to say that a player over 73 hands that is 44/0/.7 is super passive? And that a player over 86 hands is 9/1/NA is a super tight nit?

am i reading this right or not enough hands?

Depends on the stat. VPIP/pfr tend to be pretty accurate quickly. A 45/40 player after 20 hands might very well be a 22/20, but they are almost never a 15/12, etc. A guy who is 70/10 after 20 hands is almost always a loose passive fish. I wouldn't give much weight to things like WTSD/raise cbet%/cbet%/3B% especially and even AF/agg etc until you have like >100 hands or so. AF/agg can easily be skewed completely over a small sample size, so i wouldn't use the fact that somebody is 5.5 agg over 35 hands to justify making a marginal calldown or something and 3B% can easily be very skewed over a small sample.

I guess the biggest thing to remember when judging whether a stat is relevant over a certain sample size is just to think about how often that stat is affected.

For example, VP$IP and PFR are affected every hand. Every pre-flop action you make has an impact on those stats. While something like W$@SD is rarely changed. You only see the flop in less than 1/4 of all the hands you play, and only go to showdown in about 1/4 of THOSE hands. So basically you need like 20 times more hands for W$@SD to become statistically relevant than VPIP and PFR.

As to a certain number, I start using basic reads from stats at around 50 hands, and don't make too many big decisions from stats until I have about 200 hands.

yea 70/0/0.7 is a very loose passive fish and 9/1 is obviously very nitty. Even if you only have 30 hands on somebody who is 30/5, while many stats are far from meaningful you can certainly generalise that villain is a fish and you can adjust your play accordingly (ie. villain more likely to stack off lightly).
