How To Get Rid Of Bad Luck?

Anyone know how to get rid of bad luck...or even know how to help it stay away at the poker tables?
It seems like 90% of the time I have my hand run down from behind, I got my AK busted by A3 by AQ busted by A7 my 10 10 busted by 78. If I get my money in the pot with the best I come out with the worst and no chips, had a guy tell me today I was the most unlucky person he has seen in a long time....if anyone knows anything please do share. Thank You

Try taking a break from poker for about a week or so. It helps you relax and clear your head. Whne you return to playing, you'll have a better foucs and least likely to tilt.

If you don't have PokerTracker, get it. If you DO have PT, just look at your stats for the hands you think you are having bad luck with. I thought my luck with AA was terrible for a while until I found out my win % with it was 75% at the time. It should have been closer to 80% and I found out I was occasionally playing it wrong. A simple fix in my game worked.

The point is: The bad hands are probably sticking out in your mind more than the good hands. If you look at your win % stats, they are probably not far off from normal.

Poker is about understanding the long run. Luck doesn't come into it once you internalise this.

I recently had a ludicrous run on Sit and Gos where I cashed in 8 $55 SnGs in a row (and won 5 of them). I then had in the monies in 3 in a row MTTs including 2 final tables.

Since then I've lost 7 out of 8 SNGs and failed to money in the last 12 MTTs*

I've played pretty much the same all along and while I was pleased with my good run I didn't expect it to be the norm or attribute it to particularly great play.

Similarly at the moment while I'm dissappointed to have lost about $800 of the $2500 upswing I'm not anxious about it, because the long run still looks good.

The runner-runner straight that knocked me out of a $55 MTT just now is more than compensated for by all the coinflips I won in my SnG run (and there were a lot), tricky part is that it sticks in the memory a lot longer.

Variance, know it, understand it, love it

Must get back to attempt 13 to money.

Here's my advice. Go play some strip poker. Bad luck there isn't the worst thing sometimes, because you're always getting a show.

OK, no seriously (no strip poker wasn't my serious advice, had some crazy experiences with that), luck or its counterpart bad-luck is always going to be a part of poker. Yes, a particular hand or even a sick run of particular hands might be 90% luck and 10% skill, with you coming out on the short end of the stick on the luck end; however, on the course of 10,000 hands it will always be 90% skill and possibly 10% luck on you making a profit or a loss.

So just remember over the long haul, luck will not be much of a factor, or else there just wouldn't be people making a living out of playing poker. You never hear about professional lottery players do you? Well there's professional poker players, because poker is a game of skill, not luck, over the long run. Hope that helps.

When I have a long string of bad luck at the tables, I stop playing for a bit, take Beez into the bedroom...and...I find "getting lucky" changes my whole outlook and I quit caring if I lose a buck or two at the tables. Once in a while it works to where I start winning. Sometimes, even when I'm winning, I tell Beez I'm losing...and... haha

You have to wake up every morning and say to yourself good things will happen to me, believe and expect it, because they will.

I know it sounds very arrogant, and I'm sorry, but I say "I'm better than you" I'm my head while playing. It Isn't necessarily being arrogant. Its more of a way to bring myself out of a funk and pump myself up. When I'm sitting there looking at an opponent, even if they have a better record, made more money,etc... i just run that through my head over and over, especially heads up. I think the reason it works is because it helps me relax a bit and focus on the hand in session and just go with the flow. I don't worry about stacks or records. I tell myself that I can win THIS hand because I'm better than my opponent. To me confidence is key. Without it I either play way too tight or go on tilt. Either way, I'm not sitting in a good frame of mind. Just some food for thought. Feel free to crucify me now haha.

Ah Stars, seven people of nine left, everyone in ICM shove mode. No there's some great SNG structure.

Were you referring to my hand above? Keep in mind it's a turbo

Yes, didn't realize it was Turbo. Still, can't stand the Stars structure, but I can stand turbos either!

Fair enough. They frustrate the shit out of me (constantly shortstacked), but I run good in 'em so I don't mind them too much.

Now that the thread is officially hijacked:
Chuck, couple of questions:
what's your ROI in turbos (you obviously don't have to say if it's private)
and
don't you think it hurts or at least stagnates your post flop play?

1) I've only recently been playing them (only 50 games), but my ROI is sitting somewhere above %25. My PT database is kind of screwed up (turbos + 1-tables all labeled as 1-table sngs), so I can't isolate the turbos and get exact numbers.

2) It doesn't hurt my postflop game, but rather just gives me a lack of practice with it (which does show ).

Thanks CTs, "lack of practice" is just what I was getting at with "stagnate" regarding the post flop play.
