How Do You Gain Most Of Your Profit?

I want to know how you gain most of your profits.

Some people are very successful at SnG's but they are horrible at MTT's. Some people are great at MTT's but are pitiful at cash games.

So what method of play are you most successful at, and why?

I'll start it off.

I gain most of my profit from SnG's. I play very tight and aggressive, double up when I hit a strong hand, and wait for the others to knock eachother out before I start playing crazy. My success rate in SnG's is placing in 8/10.

I also do quite well in MTT's, but I haven't been able to hit a large payout yet. I place in 6/10 that I play in, but I haven't made anything substansial from them yet. Hopefully soon I will hit one, but until then i'll keep playing in them and gaining experience and padding my pockets little by little.

Right now, I lose most of my money at ring games, and I am staying away from them for the time being. I play tight aggressive at ring games just the same as I would in a SnG or a MTT, but I always get stupid donk callers that river my AA out with a weak flush or low straight. I haven't been able to control my gains/losses at ring games the way that I like to, and I will keep playing SnG's until I get to the point where I can play rings at a higher limit so that I can hopefully avoid donk plays.

Not exactly sure how to answer this one, but I have MTT as my answer. I won the poker.com freeroll, which is the majority of my bankroll so far but there were only 15 players, so would that would qualify as a SNG??. I win most of my money playing SNGs and Ring games (except for freeroll win.) I guess I would say I am most successful at SNG using $ won vs. number of events entered.

If I had to choose one style to stick with, I would definitely choose the larger SNGs.

I play a nice variety, sit and go's have generated me a nice return and i do ok at the rings (swings are horrible but hey), the vast majority of my winnings have come from the small few final tables i have made at Stars.

Cash games. Virtually exclusively.

Tournaments can be sort of fun, but I have a psychological barrier when it comes to "not winning anything." Logically, I realize that I should be looking at ROI and everything, and heaven knows I'd be the first to point this out to others - but it just makes me uncomfortable.

So, cash games it is - where a decline in stack size is something that I need only time to fix.

I play SnG's and multi table tourneys. I play tables every once in a while. I do pretty good playing SnG's. I do ok when playing cash tables and havedone pretty good at tourneys but would like to do better as I say we all would.

I voted ring games. I know I can recover in time from some donkey catching his two outer. I don't seem to have the patience for MTT's and seem to be break even at STT's. So I multitable ring games.

Interesting to see such a split when some people seem sure that one or other type is for mugs. I'm a ring game person, mainly

I would have to say MTT's for my overall profit. I have had 6 first place finishes and many cash finishes. I usually dont do the best in cash games because I dont adjust properly after playing tournys.

From a $ perspective I make most of my cash through SnGs, but on an ROI basis I actually find I'm better at Heads Up and MTTs. I just play a lot more SnGs cause for me the variance is a lot lower.

One question for ya AceZWylD: you place in 8/10 SnGs? That's phenomenal! I do pretty consistently well and beat the rake by a wide margin, and I'm a hair shy of 50%, which I thought was pretty good.

What stake, site, and #players do you play? I generally play $6 9-player tables on Stars, which might be a hair below my roll but I want to develop my system before moving on.

Beriac. I play in a lot of SnG's, typically the $1.10 buy in's for 10 player. Occassionally I will jump up to the $6 10 player. I look for 1 hand to double up on, then let the donks knock eachother out. Most entrants look for a way to make a quick couple bucks in SnG's, but could care less if they lose because the price is low. I use it to build my BR, so I play tight as hell until i'm in the money, and then loosen up from there.
