How do you build a bankroll? I guess grinding cash games is one way but is there a better way by playing sng's? And let'S say u play 5-10 cent cash games, you make a big score in a tournament for 1000$, would you go play 50 c-1$ cash games or would u want to play your way up?? What are other people's take on this?

SnGs are pretty easy, unless you stray beyond say the $22 level you will generally find them to be ATM's if you play optimally. Higher level 55+ SNG's are very difficult though as people have really mastered how to play and there is generally much less fish. Although if you prefer cash like me, they are the best form to make money and you have tons of donks even up to the 100nl level. Well winning 1k then playing 100nl is just stupid. Thats only 10 BI. You want at least 40-50BI to play safe and good poker. So if you have $1000 you can play 25nl I guess or even just stick to 10nl as thats a very healthy roll, keep building until you are crushing then move up.

You could take a shot at bigger games, but be ready to move back down if you loose a buy-in or two. |

You should listen to "Monoxide" and "big joker", if you can beat .5/.10 tables and think you can play more difficult games like $5/$10 or $15/$25 then go for it. If I where you I would stay with the level that you feel safe with even if its .5/.10 .15/.25, once you master a certain level than go with the next. Best of luck and take care, and always keep BRM(bankroll management) in mind.

I'm not sure I agree with the BRM numbers of 40-50 buyins. If you are a recreational player (don't make your living playing poker), then you could easily play with 5% of your bankroll. Most of the more conservative numbers are geared toward people earning their sole income from cards. I say if you are playing recreational play at a level that is entertaining.

to build a good sized bankroll you really need some luck and smarts unless u r super super lucky and can't loose a hand. grinding cash tables works but it is also risky u can loose what u r betting putty fast if u go in tournaments and try to use odds it says overtime u should come up ahead but ive done it alot and i am broke again and i never put my money in bad or at least i don't think i do i look up the odds when most of my money is put in and i am usually about 80% unless i get set over seted or something like that which rarely happens

re: How do you build a bankroll? poker If your goal is to profit at the tables and lower your risk of going bust, then being either a recreational or professional player shouldn't make a difference. You should want to brace yourself for swings as much as possible! 40-50 Buy-ins should be the minimum, I say. Do what you like, but I learned the hard way. Now I need to make another deposit to do things right from the beginning. Listen to Monoxide. It should be common sense for us all, really...
