HORSE-rather confusing I would think that i am not the only one to have had this problem so ill share anyway and hope to get a few opinions. I play HORSE freerolls from time to time and i do rather well in them, especially in the Razz and Omaha H\L games. the others im alright and in the stud hi im not too good. anyway, from time to time i see i have a great Razz hand so i start betting..... the cards keep on coming strong, i keep betting. the pots continues to grow and at last the players reveal their cards. i notice that i have the best Razz hand on the table yet cards after keep turning over until at last a player sitting across from me takes in the chips. i think to myself "what the hell..." and then the hammer hits me on the head and i realize we had just moved to STUD HI. imagine the disappointment. i mean, there i was, doing well, i believe i was like in 14th or 15th place out of around 1200 players and kaboom, there goes a massive chunk of my stack over a mistake like that. i had no idea we switched games since there is no sign except in the chat. there isnt a little message on the table like wehn the blinds go up. so, has this happened to anyone else or am i the only one to have made this silly mistake??? anyway, i learned my lesson and i try to keep on eye out now and i suggest everyone to do the same.

Funny, we are quite similar. My worst games are NLHE and stud hi too. And agreed, the worst confusion is always from razz to stud hi. Seems you play at FT. They display the change in a yellow box in the middle of the table for maybe 10 seconds, but if you miss it, it's not readily apparent. Best advice is that when it switches to razz, start expecting the switch to stud in 10 minutes. Around that time, always be mindful of the bring-in (hi or low card).

re: HORSE-rather confusing poker The biggest mistake is always in the first hand after a switch. i catch myself checking if i am getting reraised and his board doesnt make sense. always check the middle of the felt, it tells you what game. last time i got lucky we both thought we were playing razz and my river paired me for a 33 win. Good luck at the tables

There are some clues to when the game has changed that might help you realise the transition has been made. In razz high card is doing the bring in so keep an eye on that. When you see a low card bring in you know the change has happened to Stud Hi. Also, though this is not always the case, the Tourney Lobby reflects the change in the game. I usually keep the tourney lobby open to keep an eye on there the tourney is going.

Many people have this problem, especially if they are multi-tabling. Easiest way to avoid this is always check BEFORE playing the hand to see what game you are playing. I have on more than one occassion taken advantage of this very situation....knowing full well the other player has not recognized the change. Learn to be sure....or it will cost you lots in the long run.

re: HORSE-rather confusing poker indeed some helpfull advice in here. i play on FTP, and am seriously annoyed at all the bad beats ive been getting lately. anyway, at times i feel as if i dont have enough patience to play HORSE. i like the quick and rapid action of NL hold em. just play HORSE for the break as other shave mentioned. thx for all the good tips, ill make sure to check now when the blinds are changing and look in the lobby as well. gl 2 u all.

At least, they always used to and I don't see why they would have changed it. I haven't played HORSE there since the last big software upgrade. I just wouldn't play HORSE on a site that makes it difficult to keep track of what game you're playing. Definitely not for real money at any rate. |
