Home game last night

Just thought it's about time I actually made a poker thread!:
Organised a home game last night, 7 of us in total. Most of these guys/girls learnt the game rules etc from me, and none of them play online(apart from Liz). But, we are all looking at playing in the cheap local rebuy mtt at our casino, so I wanted to do it properly.
(By the way, it was very cheap, as most of us are on low wage)
So for the first hour it was a rebuy, we all started with 2000 chips, when you hit 1000 or less you could rebuy. first 30 mins the blinds were 10/25, then the next 30 they were 25/50. I rebought 3 times, so did most of the others. After the hour, it changed to a freezeout, with the blinds doubling up every 20 mins.
Payout was top 3, 50% to winner, 30% to 2nd, 20% to 3rd.
Key hands in rebuy: Board was all hearts, Q high. One player had the King, another had the Ace(rigged!).
Another board was kk998, one had a king, one had a 9.
In the freezeout, i went down to 1600 chips, with blinds at 100/200, I then proceeded to get AA and won, then 2 hands later had JJ PF, with a J95 rainbow flop, made a big chip improvement with those 2 hands.
Game actually last 4 hours+, I finally finished 2nd after me and Jen made a deal, she had more chips so took slightly more money, we done a showdown all-in, her 93os beat my QT with a 9 on the flop. Liz bubbled at 4th, Jess came 3rd, so 3 women in the top 4!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the schedule, as we normally play 30 minute sng's, I made a profit of 5 times the original buy-in, so was happy.
We're all looking forward to playing in the casino now, as their mtt rebuys follow a similiar pattern to ours.

We always play limit at our home games so everyone can play as long as they want - you can re-buy anytime cause it is not tournament style. But I am itching to try NL tournament - we have all been playing together for 1-2 years. There ae usually 8-18 of us. I think the next time we have to use 2 tables I will give your method a try.

Sounds like a great time KD. When we do home tournies, we play similar...always play NL and no rebuys. We do start additional tournies when enough people bust out. The main event takes between 3-5 hours to play usually, but that is the case with 20-30 people. So the payout well makes up for the time spent. A mate of mine and I run the tournies, so we get to make the rules, which is a benefit as I refuse to run a limit tourney with these guys as they are many calling stations which wind up giving odds to others. I've got some interest up from some about having a HORSE tourney for a trial as well, prob some low buy-in to get their interest, though many of the guys only play because they've seen it on TV (so they only play hold'em).

20-30 people???? we fit 8 tops in our dingy flat. Time to move, me thinks?

Well, we don't exactly use a house for the big games. My co-coordinator has a business and we use space there.

It helps to know people like that. One of my best friends owns a bar with a basement that can fit 75 people easy. Have a tournament tomorrow night and I am expecting 40 (!).

Yeah, my poolhall has offered me a private room to use, as I run pool tournaments for them now and again.

As for the games, every time we play, I add on a game at the end for them to try, as they are all new to poker. We played a 30-min game of Telesina this time, for those who dont know it(me included, until i googled it about a month ago!) you only play with a stripped deck with the cards from 7's to Aces. You get dealt 5 cards face down, but you get dealt them one at a time, then bet each round(limit bet), then after the 5th card one card is placed in the middle, and you make your 5 best cards into a hand. Ranks are slightly different, as a flush beats a full house! And suits take preference in ties, but we left that rule out. Good game though!
