high stakes poker season 6, episode 5

a very big bluff by durr. durr vesus ivey.

durr started off with his betting at 25k. everyone folded but ivey who had A6d, durrr had 89spades.
the flop came 10d, Qc, and Kd, nice hand for phil not so for durr.

prior to dwan getting into the pot the others around the table were making fun and joking about dwan's unpredictability and his "ways" haha, which i think edged him on.

after the flop durr makes a CC bet of 45.8k then ivey makes the mistake of just calling, he's giving dwan too much credit.

the turn card is the 3 spades no help to noone.
durr bets 123.2k, ivey calls again. remember dwan has nine high phil could beat him right now with A high. and the pot is 408.7k.

then the river - 6 clubs, ivey makes a pair of 6's. durr has gotz.

durr bets out again 268.2k. i think at this point phil's too embarressed to call, with just a pair of 6's (poor phil.)

the pot is now 676.9k. phil's thinking and thinking, he makes the comment to the table about how sick it is that it's taking him sooooooooooo long with what he's got. but he don't know he has the hand.

dwan sits there with his moronic stare, his eyes are tearing up and very red and it looks like he's going to "cry" if he doesn't succeed.

the only thing i could figure is maybe phil felt sorry for him or phil's losing his nerve, because he folds.

wait till phil sees the tape. he's either going to have a huge laugh over it or next time "watch out durr"

phil was durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrred.

i'm not much into dwanistics. i prefer philistics. god i wish phil would've called that would of made my day.

2) Phil cannot call there.

It was a crazy hand, Phil was really close to calling I think.

It's not easy to make hero calls for $260k, but I really think Phil has to

A. Raise the turn...if he thinks there is any air in Durrrr's range he has no implied odds in calling. I guess implied odds sorta go out the window when there's already $300k in the pot.
B. Think about the pot odds and how often Durrrr must be bluffing. It's not often Durrrr is going for 3 streets of value with his monsters, I believe he would check back almost all of his marginal hands (less than 2 pr) and how often is he really going to have a set.

This was the perfect play to raise the turn, but he had to go all-in, because it was 3-bet pot and pot was already huge. 2 x deeper stacks and different stack to pot ratio would have made the hand play differently...

I think that he called because he knew durrrr's entire stack was coming to him if I draw completed the board, because he would either crack a big set/AA or durrrr will go all-in on a bluff if a diamond hits the board.

pretty crazy the way the hand started out. with esfandiari and laak egging dwan on to raise. Thought Ivey was gonna call until Eli got involved.

it seems like ivey felt like dwan was bluffing(shocking i know!) , but then being on tv, he may have thought how he would have looked if he was wrong. i suspect if this was a nontelevised game, he may have been more likely to call.

I've seen Ivey call Durrrr with A-high on double-paired boards, so I don't think embarrassment is a factor.

I agree Ivey was really close, I thought he was going to when he said 'This is going to be the sickest call ever...'

Guys... you can bluff phil ivey... you need nads of steel and about 450,000... he also has to have almost absolutely nothing (you of course have the absolute nothing)... not to mention your story must be perfect... Dwan represented strength on every single front... and Ivey still almost called...

Phil Ivey lost the pot but honestly this just reaffirms him as the greatest player of our time, if not all time...

i keep hearing people say phil ivey is the greatest, i think its bull, dwan showed him he aint that great, many times.

Wow Durrr was in tears....it was the lights! lol I hope they show the bluff to Phil later on and we get his reaction.

I dont think they ever do stuff like that, for one thing it provides unwanted tells, Dwan mucked his bluff, he didnt want Ivey to see it. If it was shown to him while they were still playing it wouldnt be fair. They have to wait for the show like everyone else .

i forgot to mention i've seen phil do some crazy stuff, just like everyone was thinking he was going to come over the top and if he would've i'm sure durr wouldn't have won this one.
and as it was said he already was a million in the whole from a bet he had with durr, that might of been going through his head also.
the last couple of times i've seen ivey play he seems to be more conservative with his playing style. i don't blame him though, it was a lot of money. but if the old ivey was still playing durr wouldn't of had a chance.
i watched ivey fold in the main event when he could've won too.
this just could be a sign of maturity the end of his reckless play.
now durr on the other hand has a lot of hands to play before he catches up with phil and one day he'll do the same.
awe to be young and reckless.
it did take a lot of heart for durr to make those moves and sometimes it will pay off. he must have a stomach of steal.

I didn't say they would tell Phil about the bluff while they were still playing. Last season Dwan and Greenstein talked about Dwan's bluff during the post interview. I don't see the problem.

Does anyone have HHs or footage of Durrrr playing big hands this way...I've seen Ivey call Durrrr light on occasion but I've never seen durrrr play a hand like he is representing here (set, straight) this way. I've seen him push marginal (1 pair, big draw) hands on the flop or c/c big hands on the flop and bet turn/river.

Ultimately I think Ivey realized there were very few combos of hands Durrrr would actually play this way for value. This is a horrible board to get 3 streets of value with, say TPTK or AA, and if he has less than top two, would he put Ivey on a draw and let him bluff or value bet the river?

I realize Ivey and durrrr have a lot of history so I'm wondering if there are similar hands where Durrrr actually had the goods.

This is the best way to play quads if ur sure the other person has a full-house. Bcos no1 is folding a full-house when the pot is big.

The only way someone can play the way Dwan plays is if the chips are really just chips to him and not actually money. That said last year's hand where he got Eastgate off trips and Greenstein off pocket aces was better but this one was pretty good too.

Maybe Ivey doesn't like televised games. Remember a couple of seasons ago he had pocket kinds vs Brad Booth with a flop like 3,5,7 and Booth raised Ivey around 200k and Ivey tossed his kings.

I'm sure Ivey knew Dwan didn't have a great hand. However hands like J/10 were well within the normal Dwan range and that would have crushed his sixes.

Can't wait until next week when the pros get the AA vs KK hands. I thought it just happened to me!
