I think I have a pretty good understanding of calculating odds. Can someone explain how the rule of 4 and 2 works exactly.
I count how many outs i have, just like in the video. Then compare that number to how many cards are left that are unknown. So for his example, You have 12 outs, theres 47 other cards that can come off. 12:47 in a simpilar form is roughly 1:4, or 25% of the time I will catch in out. In the video he says you mulitply your outs by 4. 12x4 = 48, thats almost 50%. I'm lost. If that works, I would just like to know how it mathametically works and where he got 4 from. And why I am doing my math wrong. |

You've got the rule of 4 and 2 right.
If you have 12 outs on the flop the odds of you hitting are ROUGHLY 48% to hit one of your outs by the river. If you have 12 outs on the turn the odds of you hitting are ROUGHLY 24% to hit one of your outs. The reason you are getting 25% in your first calculation is because you're only counting the odds of you hitting your card on the turn. So if you do it like this (12/47)+(12/46)=0.516 or 51.6% which is very close to your other number. I think I did that right. |
