HELP ! - All-In Betting Error

Can anyone help ?

In a live game I counted my remaining chips as 1600, I stated (said) "all-in, 1600" an pushed all my chips into the centre. The lady next to me called and pushed in 1600 chips, while the next person was consdering their move I realised that had miss-counted and I had actually pushed in 2100 chips. I pointed this out and much discussion ensued.

The options discused were as follows:

1) I should take back 500 chips making my move a raise of 1600 and not an all-in bet. The bet the lady next to me played would stand as a call of 1600 or she could re-raise as she was now not calling an all-in bet.

2) My all in bet stands at 2100 and the lady next to me had to match the all in bet and increase her call to 2100 chips or she could remove her bet entirely and not call at all. i.e. fold her hand.

3) The verbal statement I made of 1600 stood and I have to leave the 2100 chips in the pot and basiclly forfit the 500 chips, the bet the lady next to me made of 1600 would stand, and any following players only had to call 1600.

The rules I have read (Roberts etc.) do not seem to be clear on this. A verbal statement is binding but I sad both 1600 and All-In, so which statement is bindng is not clear.

Any help would be appreciated.

you said all in before saying 1600, therefore you must put all of your chips in. The caller can then rethink her decision and is entitled to remove her chips from the pot and fold due to a mis count, or she can add to them and call.

If you'd have pushed a bet saying, "Allin 1600" and you only had 1500 the allin would still stand. The same holds true if you've pushed an amount greater than what you declared. Allin means allin which equals the entire amount of your stack. The dealer should have given your stack a count PRIOR to other players' bets to verify the exact amount of the allin bet. This is especially important if a player behind you goes allin for a greater amount, thus creating the possibility of a split pot. Good dealers ALWAYS physically count allins to determine the exact amount other players will have to bet for the call.

just next time just say all in and let the dealer count up all the chips and tell the rest of the players how much it was

I have to agree that the words "ALL IN" show your intent and the 1600 has to be taken as a polite attempt to clarify the bet. The lady's intent with her call is clear as well. She owes the pot 500.

Your intent here was to push all in. This is the binding portion of your statement. How many chips you had is irrelevant because your goal was to put all the chips in the middle. The correct thing to do is option 2. You are forced to remain all in as that was the intent to start with. The woman who called (after being told it was 1600 to call) should then be given the option to add the additional 500 or to take her 1600 back and fold. Then move on as usual.

No. The player who called clearly intended to call 1600, as that is what she put in the pot. Since no action has occurred behind her, she should have the option to withdraw her call and fold if she so desires.

Your all-in stands and with the corrected bet amount the woman has the option to play as if she hadn't acted yet. She can raise call or fold the 2,100 bet.
