Have I been hacked? Something strange here...

I got a PM from someone suggesting I remove my Yahoo IM from my profiles because there's some hacking going on at several forums, and somehow both my Yahoo and poker accounts were at risk. I don't understand how or why, but better safe than sorry.

So I just went into my profile here and noticed all my screennames were changed to 'divebitch' (which it is not except for Bodog) and highlighted in green. Even Ladsbroke & Titan were filled in (I have no accts there). All other info remained unchanged. Last I updated the profile was just a few days ago, and nothing was amiss. So I quickly changed the names, and when I updated to save them (3 times now), the 'divebitch'es came back in the green boxes. Is this a new glitch in the software here, or is something more serious going on? Thankfully, all my poker site (and Yahoo) passwords are different than the one I use here. Please check your profiles and see if this happened to you.

P.S. I've checked my Yahoo acct and all poker site and so far, no signs of foul play.

hmm it sounds very possble foul play is at work seems hacking account than transfering there money from one account to the hackers seem like something low life would do thanks for the heads up

There is an idiot who is hacking MSN and then asking for money to release it back to you.
Whatever you do, do not allow poker4life into your MSN or anything else. If you have added poker4life to your MSN, or Yahoo or anything else BLOCK him immediately.

I don't see how they can do this. The only thing I can think of is that they look at my profile, look me up on Yahoo IM (and yes I've been logged in at YahooIM for a couple days), get my password from there somehow, and come here, look at my poker site names, and see if the same password will work at FT or PS. A lot of people use the same passwords for all, so they won't forget them. Thankfully, I do not.

Yeah I heard about that. Sounds pretty bizarre. You'd think you could just contact Yahoo ot MSN, and let them know, and they'd have a way to figured out who's got it. Can you imagine anyone sending money to a stranger in hopes of them giving it back? Anyway, in my case, it would have to be Yahoo. I got into my divebich acct (the one I listed in my profile, and now deleted), and everything was fine. Password worked, no ransom email. Password changed. Just don't know how they're hacking Yahoo. Norton is supposedly protecting my auto-logins, but who knows. Does anyone things it works?

One strange thing that happened yesterday, and not sure this is in any way related. But this site kept logging me out. I'd have to log in again, maybe every half hour over the course of the entire moring.

Just do yourself a favor, erase any messenger info you may have in your profile. change all of your passwords and never ever add anybody to your messenger until you double check to see who they are. If someone tries to add you and they say they are from here. send that member a PM to verify it.

Thanks, good idea. No one has requested an add in many months, except 1 person I know. Yeah, the Yahoo is gone from my profile. The thing I don't get is why I am still seeing 'divebitch' at all the sites in my profile, when I changed it back to my real names 3x.

It was Norton all along that was hacking in here and changing my poker screennames. I just switched from McAfee to Norton 2 weeks ago. I've been using that 'manage logins' (link above), and probably okayed it for this site a few days ago, thinking no harm in it, maybe even extra protection of the password. I've been slowly adding a few log-ins like Ebay and Yahoo, and notice that my log-in info there appears highlighted in green now (just like my poker site names in my profile now), I guess letting me know that is Norton protected. Duh!

Somehow, it changed all the poker site names in my CC profile to my CC username. No idea how those boxes are different, software-wise, but that is what happened. I simply removed Cardschat from my 'manage auto logins', and my old correct names were back, white background, not green. Sorry for any trouble. Thanks for the help.

No trouble at all, although i did check your profile about a half hour ago and it did say the same thing.

I'm glad you found the problem. don't forget to change your passwords on a regular basis. Protect yourself. norton can only do so much.

Wow, so I guess they appeared that way ('divebitch', green background) to me only. Why didn't you tell me? Ah, you probably thought you were dealing with a loony tune - only half true. I don't like changing passwords often, I'm lucky I could remember my own phone # sometimes. If Norton can be trusted to protect them by encryption or whatever they do, that'll work for me. However, it won't work for here, no biggie. But I do make sure all my passwords are slightly different. Thanks again!!!

Wow, I didn't know people actually switched to Norton. I thought it only worked the other way around.

As someone who used to do tech support, if anything goes horribly wrong on your computer, Norton is probably the cause. (even if you think you uninstalled it) When it comes pre-installed on the computers of people who aren't very computer-savvy, it's a nightmare waiting to happen.

I'm sure it works fine if you know how to manage it, but I've only ever seen it cause problems.

^ what he said. although i'm not sure whether switching from mcafee to norton is 'good' or not (it's sort of like switching from eating turd sandwiches to pubic hair burgers or something). use avg, nod, kaspersky, avast, basically anything but norton and mcafee.

Just 2009, Norton's reviews are excellent. Like they've finally got it together, and the review are way ahead of McAfee. I did my homework. And while it ain't perfect, so far so good. It's not the dog it used to be, slowing your system down. But you're right, pokervic, I had no idea what Norton was doing with that password BS. Norton is a little creepy like that.

Yes I also got told that on another forum. And 2 of my buddies actually someone hacked into there Pokerstars account. Pokerstars caught them and they admitted by getting into the Email they were able to get into the Pokerstars account..

I had Norton a couple years back when I did get hacked by a ZLOB Trojan that stole my Bodog password and Joyrode my entire account, a $900 loss. I would not trust Norton; it's crap. It never did find the Trojan. I found it doing an online scan with Trend Micro Housecall, which I would suggest you do.

I use AVAST and am happy with it. Also frequent online scans with trend micro, and scans with Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy.

I'm glad you didn't get hacked. Norton didn't protect me, and it sounds like it's doing screwy things to your computer.

I also use Lavasoft Ad-Aware & Spybot. From all I've read, Norton's come a long way just in the past year. And yeah, it's done weird things with the 'auto-log-in management', but I think maybe it was just that I did not recognize what it was doing (i.e. that filling in my site ID with the green highlight). Sucks on the Bodog ordeal. No idea if Norton had that 'auto-login protection' like they do now. I don't recall they did last I had them (2-3 yrs ago?). Thanks for the input.

Guess that can happen anywhere. Probably the poker sites are not as careful as sites like Ebay and Paypal (where they give you 'hints' like favorite pet, sports team), in making sure your password is safe. I can't say for sure though. The more popular they've become, and the more competition to boot, I bet (hope) they've taken additional precautionary measures.

My profile here is fine, but thanks for the heads up. I also saw the post about poker4life. Alot of people on Full Tilt is complaining about this ID in one fashion or another. Yahoo ims and tricking people into thinking they are buying or selling chips. This is the 4th time I have seen a complaint about that ID.

Hiya DB, next time this happens just hit your refresh button to see if that does the trick, works for me every time. Not having to keep re-typing your password is also a big plus in view of any possible hacking shenanigans.

I had signs of attempts made aware to me by my virus program...yet it kept blocking it. However I think the worst type of hack out there is when someone plants a keylogger on your system..then they can get all your passwords

Exactly. The ZLOB Trojan planted a keylogger and wiped out my Bodog account. Very very scary.

Some have commented about Norton not protecting them in the past. Does anyone know if the 2009 product is a new safety feature, and is/sounds effective?
