Hands you hate but can't lay down What pocket cards do you hate/have a general dislike for? For me, it's gotta be pocket Jacks. I either can't play them right, or just get unlucky. Maybe I'll find a HH and post it to get some ideas for the group. Anyway, if there is already a thread for this, I'm sorry, but I didn't see one when I did a (really, really small) search. I'm just curious and hope to see what problems others may have with other combos of pocket cards.

Got to echo the sentiments about jacks. Hate them unless the table is shorthanded and even then it can be a drag... with 8 or more players it's a total pain in the ass. AQ and AJ suck too. I never win with AQ. Last two times I've called semi-shortstacked all-ins with it in SnG play, both times the other player had A2 and won.

There is no doubt that pocket Jacks are tough to laydown PF but the most difficult for me is when you get QQ and a K or A hit the board on a flop. Obviously a good raise will get you heads up or close to it but when the K/A hit on the flop, you have to make the read and decide if they called with overcards or if they have a smaller PP. It's probably a read I make correctly about 60/40 but it's always gut wrenching

re: Hands you hate but can't lay down poker Pocket JJ sucks, I either lose with them or lose to them. "I hate Pocket JJ" is my sig on www.viperalley.com

I think 99 is easier to play than JJ, because it's easier to lay down if you don't catch a set... JJ can be a very good hand too though - just make sure you isolate with a pre-flop raise, play them fast, and be very careful if there are 2 or more overcards. Jacks have actually been very good for me lately, more so than those pesky Aces. Winning with Jacks 2 (http://www.cardschat.com/showpost.php?p=436741&postcount=4) Losing with Aces 1 2

I just had a situation where I had A8 in my hand and pocket 8's & 7 came on the flop, buddy sitting there with a nut flush draw doesn't get the spade till the river calls me all in, I think it's even harder when you have to lay trips down. Or I should have been more aggressive on the turn card.

UPDATE: I HATE POCKET ****ING KINGS. I seriously can't play any better than this. Past 2 days A-rag has beat me every time I've had them. I am so frustrated... I should be up so much money because I'm playing so well. ARGH. In conclusion, I'd like to never be dealt KK again.

re: Hands you hate but can't lay down poker I lose more chips this way than any other. When I have the chip lead or close to it I love to play suited conectors. Its like a vice for me. And it's lost me quite a bit. I'm am learning to lay them down and play very tight now. But once in awhile 6 7suited comes up and it's ARRRRGGGG! Play it! Play it!

JJ looks pretty but Doyle Brunson classes it (in Super System) as a small pair, to be played in the same way as 55 (say). Basically, if you make your set you`ve got a strong hidden hand with which you can look to pick up a serious pot. If not, and someone else is betting, lay them down. No set, no bet. Seems a shame sometimes, but I certainly don`t think I know more about the game than DB, and I play them his way.

I HATE QQ I HATE QQ I HATE QQ I HATE QQ I HATE QQ You raise pre-flop. 90% of the time when people call you, they have either an A or a K or both... So when the flop shows A or K, and they push at you, how can you defend calling? So QQ tends to cost me more than other hands, because I push with them preflop, and then when the flop comes, it is a pain to defend with. and THEN when the flop doesnt come above Q, someone called with 99 and hits trips

Are you raising hard pre-flop? If so that sucks, hate when people call big raises with Ace rag, when I have a high pocket pair. 2 reasons 1) They can hit their ace and beat you 2) You can't get them hooked when they hit their rag because its so low. |

Yeah, raising pre-flop. Idiots on Party Poker just love any hand with an ace in it. Usually it's in the later high-blinds staged so we end up all-in pre-flop and then there's nothing I can do but hope my Kings hold up, and they haven't been.

From my point of view, when I raise hard pre-flop with KK, people can put me on AK AQ KK AA QQ, etc... so when an ace comes, there is a good chance that Im raising with an ace. So if they represent the ace, then I normally fold unless I can put them on a bluff... Ive lost a lot of money going all in with KK preflop, but the money that hurts is lost after the flop when you see an ace and keep donating to the pot. |

Yea you are exactly correct. What i was refurring to was going all in pre flop with kings and someone with Ace rag calls and hits the Ace. There is nothing you can do in that case. But if your not all in and the Ace came, and that is a tight player, its better to fold the hand cause you know they are not bluffing when they are a tight player. Just save money and move on to the next hand.
