Hand Analysis Software

Hi all - hope this is the proper location for this thread.

I am interested in locating a hand history analyzing tool - I do not wish to have a HUD or anything like that - but looking for something that I can plug my HHs into for study when not playing. Primarily would like to locate something free - or at least modestly cheap. like to spend my money on other things

I am hoping for something that will allow me to pull up statistics for individual starting hands, streets, hands i have won, lost split... etc to analyze how I can play situations and opponents better.

I hope this makes sense... I would like to accomplish my goal here without feeling like I am "cheating" with say HEM or PT3.

If either HEM or PT3 is still my best bet - can I use them without the HUD

And for the record I do not think using HEM or PT3 is cheating - just if I use them (at this time anyway) I feel I will be cheating myself...

HEM and PT3 are both very valuable tools for analyzing hands. I have PT3 personally, and the HUD it comes with can be turned off while you're importing hands if you so choose. Why are you not in favor of HUDs? Just because you feel it's unfair?

Well as I said - I dont think that use of the HUDs are cheating - just that I feel that if I use them "at this time" they would be cheating myself - I want to try to play without - for now at least.

If I can play properly without them, then later, if I ever decide to use them, they would not be a crutch.

I understand their usefulness - but for self-pride and or self-image would like to work without them.

Fair enough, I can admire wanting to learn the in's and out's of the game without a HUD. Plus, they're not cheap, hahah.

Once you find some interesting hands, bring them back here to Cardschat and post them in the Hand Analysis section. That's another great way to get some feedback on your play, and learn the best moves in different situations.

Using a HUD is not a crutch, it's another skill to master. I would say that by refusing to use a HUD you're delaying your development as an online player.

I still am learning the game like you. If you want to review hand histories, save the files and review them in here and get feedback.Just post them in the hand converter tool here on cardschat. I personally feel that online, the level of complexity, understanding, and resources have drivin the game to another dimension. With that said, a student of the game should seek out every avenue, every resource to make his game better, but do it steps. Because your not going to to learn everything overnight, or even in a month but the point is to keep studying, keep stretching your limit. So having a H.U.D. is not necessarily a bad thing. Not only does it provide a H.U.D. but it also provides the latest technology for hand review outside the tables. thanks for all the input Im not saying that HEM or PT3 are crutches - but I want to be sure that I dont use them as such. If that makes sense. - hopefully I can get to a point where I can use the information from them to assist me in the decision making process.
I just feel that if I use them now - I may grow to allow the software to make my decisions for me - "this player has these ratings and does this this percentage of time that means raise".

I am likely to allow myself to do that initially.

I do want to get to a point where I can multi table more than 2 tables at a clip... at that point I feel that the HUDs will become most valuable and necessary just to keep up with all that is going on. But still using my own good judgement for the decisions.

I am currently a losing player - I admit it... but primarily because I am not very strict with my BR. If I win a couple of SnG's I will wager every bit of my winnings on a larger SnG and blow it all. Then try to play catch up. which ultimately fails for me 76% of the time.

I have been adopting some ideas and techniques with regards to record keeping and BRM and I hope that I stay disciplined enough to let that help curb the massive play level leak that I continually seem to pull the drain plug out of.

Following good BRM guidelines will help you to grow your BR more than ANY analysis you can do concerning your game. Until you learn to abide by some form of BRM you will NEVER be a winning player over any decent sample.
