Greet or Not?

Well just curious about when you sit down to play -do you greet the table or not. I usually do but also get some tongue people with nasty comments. I'm a friendly type person and I'm their to enjoy my game, have fun and hopefully win some $. Would you rather that players said nothing at all or be friendly and wish you luck? I don't mean to carry a conversation on constantly but just a friendly" Hello".

In our games I'll always chat a bit - in other games, meh, it depends on my mood really. Sometimes I won't shut up, other times I won't respond even if talked to.

I guess I'd introduce myself, so the others wouldn't have to say "Hey YOU, you dropped a chip" or something. If the dealer didn't have a nametag, I'd also get their name so I wouldn't have to say "Hey Dealer".

I always greet the players. It's poker manners in my book and it makes poker more enjoyable. Plus, if you're really friendly some players might reveal soem tells that they are not aware of.

Nothing wrong with a warm friendly Hello to anybody in general. It is called politeness.

I don't say anything when I sit down. I'm in a recliner at the desk and the key board is out of reach. If it is one of you guys playing with me then I'll set it on my lap and say hi. If not then it takes some interesting table chat to get me typing.

I had a guy in a N/L cash game on pokerstars over the weekend telling me what hands he had. ????????? He wasnt lying either. I was playing 3 tables, he was on 2 of them, telling me on one table what he had on the other.

Was this a sign from the poker or possibly the bankroll god?

I used to try and chat up a table, say NH, or G1! but now I rarely talk except at our CC games. Seems like every time I open my mouth (so to speak) recently that nothing but rude comments come out. I guess I'm tired of the crap calls and such. If the game has been played well throughout I'm more likely to chat it up. If there is a "All-in" dork then nothing but insults seem to come out. That's why I prefer to let my cards do the talking.

I will say hello if someone else says hi. If the chatting gets out of hand, like the name calling and observer chat, then i will turn off the chat options.

I think it's something you should do in a LIVE poker game.

I agree, to many idiots online who somehow think it's funny to be nasty and aggresive to the rest of the table, you know what i mean, Glen Says "Hi Folks and GL", BiteMe Replies "Shut the F**** up you nancy boy wonder"

I have no idea what goes on in their heads and to be honest i don't want to know.

Always say hello at CC games. As a matter of fact at the Sunday freeroll whenever I am moved to a new table with a member I know, I believe my habit of saying hello, how are you to them before I notice that they are sitouts is worth at least a couple of calls when I get a good hand. At other sites with folks I don't know I tend to not say much, so I can keep chewing my gum.

What a fun thread.... I enjoy hearing the different opinions and reasons

Being the silly cheerleader type that I am, I usually say Hi and GL even at a Heads Up match. From there I follow the lead of the table. If others say something nice and chat and start telling each other NH etc., so do I. Otherwise, I am quiet and just watch..... or maybe check a forum or something between hands

nope

I don't say hi unless I know someone or someone speaks to me. In tounies I usually turn off chat right away to consider everyone as equal.

I'm not typically one to offer the first greeting either online or in real life (kinda shy that way I suppose), but I'm happy to return any "hi" or "good luck."

It also depends on the site. On poker.com, more people say hello when they sit down at the table than at any other site I've used. I think it's because when you type "hi" there a cute little guy pops up and waves.

It usually depends on my mood. If greeted I reply, if not I say nothing, or sometimes I do. I hope that clears it up....

I play live but umm yes I always say hello to the folks at the table. I mean sure are there reasons why you might not say hello to folks?
