Greatest poker player ever - and George Best

With the news that British football legend Geroge Best is possibly days from death, it reminded me of the tragic case of the player I consider to not only be the best poker player ever to live, but also the greatest 'cardsman' ever, Stu 'the kid' Ungar

Stu won 3 WSOP title at a very young age and won numerous tournaments. He has an astonishing history and blew almost all his winnings on gambling, drugs and alcohol.

He was found dead in a run down hotel room, with alcohol and drugs scattered everywhere

What do you guys think of Stu and how does he rank amongst the greatest players to play the game

Totally agree with you.I'm pretty sure he only entered 3 wsop tourneys and won the lot.I'm actually looking for some good articles or books on the man as it sounds an astonishing story(any links etc much appreciated).Isn't there a movie coming out soon based on his life?
As for Georgie, the man was a football genius and responsible for one of the best stories i ever heard.
He was lying on a hotel bed(early 70s) with a miss world winner and surrounded by 20000 quid thrown all over the room.Room service appear with 2 bottles of the best champagne take one look and say to George...where did it all go wrong mate?
Shame he pissed it all away but i think all geniuses have a self destruct chip in their brains.

I will post some links here later today on him and some stories on Stu. There is a few books out on his life already, check out www.amazon.com and there is a film coming out shortly I believe.

George is also a very sad story. He is considered by many to be the greatest player ever but as you said, like most phenomenons and geniuses, their death always seem to come way before their time. sad but true
