I think in poker, amongst the pros, you have to choose your friends wisely and realize the rest are gunning for you - especially if you've had success on television. People hate Daniel Negraneu and he's about the nicest guy on or off the table. Being a celebrity is like that - no matter what you do or how nice you are some people will hate you. The converse is true too (maybe in Hevad's case!) that no matter how big an ass you are some people will admire you.

ok maybe you interpreted it differently. I don't think it's advocating that you don't give a shit about anyone else and just always assume everyone wants you to fail, but don't be playing your game (or living your life) for someone else. Don't try to play poker to impress someone, play it for yourself. Your true friends will be the ones who are your friends regardless of your poker/life success, not because of it.

I wouldn't say that nobody wants you to be successful in life. Sure, some people will hate you no matter what, be jealous of your success and gossip about you, but there are friends and family that will support you in what you do. I have poker friends that care about my success, and I want them to do well too. Don't assume everyone is out to get you, just play the best you can and shrug off the haters.

Hehe pretty good quote especially because its from Kahn. It makes sense, people arn't going to be impressed or happy for you most of the time from your successes, its just human nature. Its very rare that you will encounter someone that is genuinely pleased of the outcome of your success, poker wise or anything else.

Funny Kahn says this after his clown act during the WSOP last year. I can see hows lots of players would dislike him for all the antics at the table. The Bulldozer crap got old quick.

He makes a good point. It'll be a rare person who is a poker all-star and is also really concerned about what everyone thinks about him. Take Todd Brunson. In no way do I feel that he's playing poker just to prove himself to his daddy. Major league sports, however, are filled with those other types of people.
