Gone broke - bounce back? I got a free 50 dollar bankroll from Pokerstrategy and started playing 'the grind' on Partypoker. About 4k hands later im sitting here with 0,6 dollars. I think the demise of the BR is due to two things, my bad play after playing for a few hours straight and the cards I have been getting. As to the cards I haven't seen Aces in about the last 1k hands and lost many big pots with KK (where do they get all those aces?). However, this does happen, so my question is what do I do next? Freerolls? I want to hear those positive stories how someone came back from zero and so on... All is not lost however as I am taking part in the $3500 grindroll tomorrow and have intention of winning it. How am I able to psyche myself to be the best after such a downswing?

Good idea, but we don't have live games here in Finland except for some where the buy in is huge and it is 250km away from where I live. I actually made $4.9 off the grindroll, so I will start to slowly build my BR back. I know that I am a good player as I almost always have been able to bounce back so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think the main reason that I lost all of my bank roll was because I was playing like a donk. I gave away too much money. It is a miracle I didn't go broke earlier. The way that I was able to come back to playing good poker today, was that I got up and went to the gym yesterday, and today I went for a little walk in the soothing nature about a hour before the tourneys started. BTW. Saw a pair of aces in one of the grindrolls, I'm glad their back.

i think part of the reason why you lost your bankroll is because you were not playing with your own money, the reason why you might have been playing like a donk is because in the back of your mind, maybe not noticing it, but you were saying, well its free money, so i can make this call or make this or that play... or maybe you didnt... its just a theory like when a friend stakes me I think I play worse because I know its not my money so i think that I am not losing my money again, its just a theory

If you lost patience with a bad run of cards I can understand this. You proberly would be best to take a break whenever you feel like that. I would play freerolls to build up your BR. Then maybe start playing playing some Omaha Hi or H/L cash where the play is generally worse than Holdem on small stakes. Never played on Partypoker though.

I know that some of this is my own bad playing, but when do I get a break from all of this bad luck? I usually have some downturns, but they end, this seems more like a one way street. |

I've gone through some very long (we're talking weeks) downswings. The downswings start with some bad luck/bad cards then quickly deteriorate into poor play. When this happens I take a break for a few days to get some distance from the situation and put it in perspective. Then when I'm ready I play again, concentrating on keeping my discipline and playing fundamentally solid poker. Hit the freerolls like you plan, maybe play some micro-limits. Keep your focus on the table. Between games, reread your favorite poker theory books and articles to reinforce the good playing habits you know you are capable of and if you have PT or a similar program, by all means spend some time analyzing your play to sort out any weaknesses. Hope this is somewhat helpful. Good luck at the tables!

Today played at full tilt and only lost like 10 dollars in the cash games, my luck seems to be coming back. Then I went to play a few 2dollar SNGs (played 6 in total). Won two, came second in one and placed third in one. Now my balance starts to look a bit bettter. I even got aces heads up against ace queen with the board having a ace! I think Im going to start playing SNGs and MTTs a lot for a while before I come back to the cash games. SNGs just feel so easy to win money at as long as you let the other people drop each other out.

re: Gone broke - bounce back? poker Just wanted to post the strategy to winning those 2 dollar turbo SNGs. Be quite passive in the early stages, limp in with small and medium pocket pairs. Call all ins with only great hands. When in the money, (and this isn't so hard to get to as the other players drop each other out) be ultra aggressive. All in with any decent hand, unless the other two players are playing each other out. Ace with just about any kicker is good for a all-in at later stages, there are three ways to win with these hands: 1.They fold 2.Either of them calls and doesn't hit the board and you win 3. You hit your ace.
