| Game Change Hey everyone, I must say that even though I blew my roll last week, this forum has greatly improved my approach to poker. In the past I was more or less alone in my thoughts and wondering about poker. I had a few buddies I played with but none of them were that serious about it. Most of my time was spent playing recreational SnGs with delusions of serious play. There is such a wealth of info here and an honest desire to share here among members. After some serious critique of my game I've concluded that I am currently not skilled enough to consistently profit from SnGs. When it comes to pure card playing skill, I do feel that I am a little above average. My two biggest leaks are discipline and tilt. I never really thought I was prone to being affected by tilt. I would get bad beats and lose and shrug it off and continue my game. But it would accumulate. Not just for the session but for multiple sessions. If I lost 12 games in week there was a damn good chance I'd end up playing just a smidge more aggro or worse, more passive. And then bam, all gone. So I decided to stop playing lots of SnGs. I enjoy them more than ring, but I am more profitable at ring. I enjoy rock climbing more than selling rock climbing gear, but guess which one funds the other? I bought Leatherass' book and it all just kinda pointed me towards ring. I've got some goals and personal challenges that I'll post in that forum later cause this is more of a Thank You post. If I didnt join here I'd probably deposit more cash, play a few hundred SnGs and bust again. Instead I've been able to actually look at my performance in a different light and find obvious leaks. Thanks everyone |

| re: Game Change poker Good luck wetyeti!!!! I am now +- ROI in sng and MTT, and moving more toward +ev and am seeing vast improvements in my game in these formats. I also consider myself a slightly above average player (at best), but my biggest losses have been at ring, where I used to spend most my time, so my story is the exact opposite of yours. I hear all over the place that ring is more profitable, but I think you have to not suk, like I do at it, for that to be true...... I will be concentrating on my familiar games till I get more comfortable with my skill level, and then - after a lot of reading - take the ring back!! In any case, keep us posted how it goes for you, I will need positive inspiration when I am ready to try ring again |
