| Funny Donk story Here’s a story about one night, not too long ago at the local tourney where, I watched a hand play out with one of the most dimwitted individuals I’ve ever met. Most of the players at this tourney are regulars and I have VERY solid reads on about 80% of the players there. The remaining 20% is generally comprised of floaters that come in hoping to try their skills out (shudder) that they've developed on-line or someone who's watched one to many WSOP, WPT or other cable poker show but never so much as cracked a book or had any in-depth poker conversation with anyone. Anyway, on this particular hand, I was in the SB and quickly folded my trash hand away (was hitting nothing for the first hour anyway) when the virtually the entire table limps in, including a pretty good friend of mine who is seated in the Cut Off position. The rainbow flop comes Q6Q and it's checked all around and just as the Turn comes out (it’s a 4), I have a little fun and say, "I’m All-in" and smile. I should mention that this is a very light-hearted group and we are all joking around like this for the first hour or so because we all know each other. This should also partially explains why there we’re so many limpers in on this particular hand. Well, immediately after I say this, my friend acts out of turn in the CO says “I Call”. Obviously this is a major tell and when he realizes what I did and what he did, he kind of lefts out this defeated sigh. Of course I'm immediately apologetic, and even though he screwed himself as much as I did by acting out of turn I feel horrible. So as you can image I'm stumbling all over myself trying to apologize as everyone at the table looks like their watching a tennis tournament looking at me, then him, then back at me, etc. Everyone that is, except Mr. Donk! This guy has been in on every hand since the start of the tourney (we’re about 20-30 hands in, so far). All of us know he's a Donk and that he's most definitely making multiple steals with his early tourney aggression, but we also know that he'll eventually hang himself. Well, even while I'm still apologizing and the players in font of Mr. N00B begin their folding procession, this guy seems totally oblivious and begins stacking his chips. When it's his turn to act, he bets out with about 10% of the pot. The table is visibly SHOCKED. We are all just staring at each other with our jaws a gapped. Slowly, as we come back to reality, we look towards my friend to see what he's going to do. He is obviously swimming in confusion and after a few seconds of bewilderment he finally decides to just calls. We each exchange glances as if to say ,"WTF?" The river rolls out a 10 and the N00B bets out with about half the pot. My friend sits back and studies the guy. Finally he throws out a raise to make the initial bet match the pot. Then Mr. Donk dives into his own tank for a good while. When he finally resurfaces he says, "Yep, I’m all-in." Everyone falls back in their chairs, "No way!" My friend is totally feeling bitch-slapped. Can this guy really be serious? The tension is thick and we can even hear the wheels in my friends mind churning away over the bustle of the other tables. Finally, appearing utterly defeated he calls. Mr. Donk, turns over K4o as if he knew he had the winning time. Everyone is forced to take a double take at it before my friend finally turns over AQ to show trip Queens. Then Mr. N00B groans as if he was just sucker punched and the he simply gets up and walks away in disgusted. The entire table is just left in absolute stunned silence. Finally, when the door closes behind Mr. Donk, my friend says, "Did that really just happen?" and we all break out in a round of laughter. Just incredible so I thought I’d share. NuRelic |
