The site itself puts up most of the $ for the freerolls. If you look at the rake at the higher stakes in 1 hand that will take care of every freeroll they host for that day not to mention the rakes from all the other tournys and sit n gos as well. There are sponsors also they donate $ to the site in efforts to promote them.

The sites use freerolls as a lure for players, people play them a lot if they dont wanna deposit, when they do eventually get some money its no where near enough to play with so they lose it quickly, they then deposit. Or they never cash, get frustrated, and deposit.

I wonder just how many real money players started out their career by playing in freerolls. Whilst learning the game i could be playing up to 4 or 5 freerolls simultaneously across different sites. It has to be said that if you want to try this make sure you have a dent spec PC like i did, the PC i have now could not cope with the strain. Eventually i progressed on to real money games and the rest is history. I have won a few freerolls in my time and cashed in a lot more but i know the sites have made that money back from me, tenfold by way of rake and tourney entry fees. It's a worthwhile exercise for them as there must be thousands of players who started out like this.

re: Freeroll Funding? poker they rake players everyhand on cash tables mtts and sngs so whats it for them to make a 50$ freeroll lol its there cash and they know its more then likly not going to leave the site even if you take first place in the tourny .cause if you do win the freeroll you will go play a sng mtt or cash table game and give it right back to them lol

The funds are usually added by the pokersite, it's a promotional tool to try out the software, much like play money. Now you also have private freerolls which sites such as CC offer, which they are given from individual poker sites because they bring new players to the sites. It's a benefit of being an affiliate
