four colour deck why is a standard deck of cards only two colors ? it seems to me a four color deck (different color for each suit) makes much more sense. is this a traditional thing or to do with cost ? why don't online poker rooms use a four color deck by default, instead of having to change from 2 colors ? i presume you can buy a 4 color pack of cards, are these more expensive to make ? with poker software its easy to have 4 colors with no extra cost. is anyone still using a 2 color deck online ? just curious.

Once upon a time there was only black. Printing costs et al. Huge improvement when they added a second color. I was a big bridge player, and never saw 4 color decks until I saw online poker. And while I haven't shopped for cards in years, I would imagine 4 color decks can be bought. Online 4 color decks should be standard IMHO. Then you could opt for the 2 color version, or what the hell, opt for a 1 color version....We don't need no stinking color!

re: four colour deck poker I started using 4 colors when I started multi tabling. My eyes are not the greatest and it was sometimes necessary to wear my glasses and I dont like to wear them if I dont need to. Now I am so used to it, that I will never go vack to 2 color decks.

I think I'm an odd one out because I still use two-colour decks online. Mostly it's because I have to work with two-colour decks when I deal live games and I don't want to run the risk of getting my brain wired for four colours and starting to miscall live hands. My boss wouldn't be too pleased if I started awarding people pots just because they had five red cards... Plus I've never played more than about six or eight tables at a time online so misreading hands in the rush has never been a big issue for me.

I always use 2 color deck. Tried the 4 color option, but just didn't like how shining the green and blue are, especially the green. But after reading the previous comments, maybe I'll give it a try, guess it probably is a "getting use to it" thing. Besides, my astigmatism isn't getting any better, so using 4 color deck would only help avoiding posible "flush" mistakes.

I need the 4 color deck. My eyes are not verry good. I used the 2 collor deck but multitabling i found mayself sometimes calling with nut flush when there was no flush on the table I only have this problem when there are spades and clubs on the table. When multitabling damn spades look like clubs because they are tiny.

Well no, because the colours in roulette are an important part of the game mechanics whereas using a four-colour deck in poker has no material effect on how the game is played. I take your point about tradition though. |

I guess I could see the advantage while multi-tabling, but I've never had the desire to play more than one table. And I have never given any thought to using a 4 color deck until I read ths thread, so i gave it a try and I can honestly say it totally messed with my head. So I rekon I'll stick to traditional!!!

re: four colour deck poker I'm just wondering, do people really misread their hands that often because they only use a two-colour deck? There's obviously going to be an element of selective recall in this, but as I said above I've always used two-colour decks online. I would have played hundreds of thousands of hands on up to eight tables at a time and I don't think I've ever had any real issue with misreading. I'm sure it's probably happened at some point but I'm also sure that the number of times it's happened would pale into insignificance compared to the number of general misclick errors I would have made. I'm not some stick-in-the-mud traditionalist that would stay with two-colour decks if I thought it was costing me money. Am I an odd one out or something?
