final table with a pair of 5's I did well the other night in the casino made final table and in the money but there was one hand I would like direction on. The table was down to around eight players I was EP and got pp5's I was chip leader at the time with 47000, I limped (blinds were 1500-3000) hoping to see a cheap flop and hit my set however an experienced player who's played for years went all in for 27500 it got folded back around to me.. my thinking was I probably had the best hand at present and put him on AK or AQ Harrington states that the probability of him having a higher PP is around 40% with over cards at 50% and a bluff being 10%. I know I'm a pre flop favourite if he has over-cards but it is really a coin flip situ. Anyway I folded because I did not want my stack to become depleted but if I had of taken him on and won I would have knocked him out he went on to chop up the money in first place and me in second still good result but I wonder if I made the right play?....

Did he show his hand? (probably not). Like they said you should lay it down... but if the situation were reversed, and you limped with AK he went all in with 55, and now the action is back to you what do you do? Fold again because its still a coinflip? This is why aggression wins

It might have cost you more, but then maybe not. EP you might consider a 4x raise with the 55, then if somebody comes over the top, you can drop the hot potatoes. But more often than not they fold out, and your 55's are profitable. I don't think from EP you want any action with 55 at the FT, so I'm thinking that you want to make the only guy who really has a stake in the pot make a big decision. That would be the BB in general, and anyone else who calls or bumps probably has you beat. But as played you did fine.

re: final table with a pair of 5's poker To me you made the right decision. There was no point in endangering your chip stack in what was at best a race and at worst you were a big dog. With that chip chip stack depending on how early your position was I may have actually folded because depending on chip stacks you may have to lay it down to most players all-ins. I think you answered your own question when you said you were trying to see a cheap flop as in you were always laying the hand down to the all-in and it was a was a good play. The Muppetteer

To me with a comfortable chip stack, I just muck 55 from early position. If I am short stacked then it probably is a shove. |

re: final table with a pair of 5's poker Just thought I'd thank everyone who has commented on this hand for me, I probably should have mentioned that the guy who shoved AI showed me AKo after I had folded, so it was a coin flip but I was in front it just his range is far greater than mine and I was glad I did not risk it.
