For SNGs Colin Moshmans SNG book is a most have. Harington on cash vol 1 and 2,Profesional NL, NL Theory and Practise should be good for ring(the last two also apply for tourneys to some degree). Harington on Holdem series should set u up good for tourneys. For the phsycolgy part the Poker Mindset is good. Texas Holdem Odds and Probabiltys to learn the odds. And the list goes on and on. If u whant a good answer specify what game and stakes your playing and what u need improving(or want from the book) Also do a search of the forum for AlienGenius threads on poker books, he is the guru when it comes to poker books. |

thank you, sorry ill polish it up a little. i want a book on cash AND tourneys. i play lots and lots of tourneys with ring games on the side. during ring games i play .25/.50 blinds exclusively. i play tourneys anywhere from 1 - 10 dollars exclusively. i really want to understand how to do better during the middle stages of any given poker tournament. im great during the beginning, usually build up a great chip stack, but when the antes kick in, it really dwindles and before i know it i just miss making it in the money =[

Harringtons Holdem series really had a positive effect of my tourney play especially on middle and end of tourneys which was what I think you were asking for. Unfortunately I have never got round to reading a cash orientated book, I know I should just a time issue, so if anyone can suggest a good book for this I would appreciate it.

re: Favorite Poker Book HoH is the tournament bible!! Volume 2 specifically! I'm reading Kill Everyone at the moment and its pretty advanced. There is a decent amount of math and tables to study and its making my head hurt lol. I'm sure once I read the book a couple times it will start to absorb and should help me out quite a bit in tournies. There is also a section in it on 6max but you would be better off just getting Ryan Fee's 6max ebook.

Harrington on Hold 'em is fantastic for tournament play. Killer Poker - No Limit by Vorhaus is probably my favourite overall poker book, it covers cash games and tournaments. Rather than just telling you how to play given hands or situations it really helps you to analyse your overall game, stamp out leaks and improve various areas. Or at least that's what it did for me.

HOH1,2,3 are great and help your game drastically.. Kill Everyone is great way to learn how to put people on a hand range and making correct choices according to math... Last but not least Moshman's Heads Up is also great read that explains how to play heads up(very important for ones game)

Well, everyone's suggestions so far are all very good for the technical aspects of the games involved. However, don't overlook the importance of reading the other players, especially when you are playing live games. Joe Navarro has a couple of really good books out. His first was co-authored with Phil Helmuth, "Read 'Em and Reap." Mike Caro also has some really good products on poker tells, including books and videos.

I liked the HOH books as well, but my favorite so far has been 'Winning poker tournaments one hand at a time'. I found it has improved my tourney play a lot. Three of the top online pros take you through their thinking process with some key hands. They have strategy with beginning, middle, and late stages of the tourneys.
