| Eyes opened, and mind blown... I've been a lurker on here for awhile and finally decided to register and get involved in the community here. I want to start by thanking Cardschat for turning me on to a book that has pretty much changed how I approach poker. I've been grinding out 25nl for awhile and never really thought it was more than a little extra cash and a hobby but after reading Dusty's thread on here I decided to read his book. It's a total game changer in terms of how I see the game and approach it now. It was pretty cool to read a book that worked on making sure that I prepared myself to play my best game when I sat down. I don't know what to compare this to in terms of a regular job. I guess this book is to poker what The Art of War or How to Win Friends and Influence People is to a sales or marketing person. Link if you want to check it out. https://www.dustyschmidt.net/order_d...ke-a-business/ I'd also like to hear from others on here as to what you do off the tables to prepare yourself for success etc. Anyone have some mental prep exercises they do before they sit down? Thanks guys just had to share this cause I really liked it. Guess I'm like that guy who loved a movie and has to make all his friends watch it. |

| I usually start my day by taking a 2 mile walk down the beach, rain or shine, followed by 2 full hours of intense yoga to mentally prepare myself. Then I go to war on the tables. Just playing. I also liked Dusty's book and agree fully that you have to be mentally prepared when you go to play poker. I usually just make sure that I am ready by asking myself a couple questions... a. Am I tired? If yes, then don't play. b. Am I just bored? If yes, then don't play. c. Am I drunk? If yes then try not to play(rarely my drunken side takes over and wants to play, but I'm smart enough to drop way down in limits). Although, I don't really treat poker like a business like Dusty, as I am not able to crank out a living at 5NL just yet, so my personal traits are probably a little different than some of the others here. |

I get my circulation going by having three-in-a-bed sex with the hottest babes in town. Or I go with my second choice - a cup of fresh-brewed black coffee. |

| re: Eyes opened, and mind blown... poker man, my eyes! for mental/physical prep, treat poker as an examination. get a decent amount of sleep, eat a good breakfast/lunch, hydrate and make sure u have beverages on hand during the session. tell yourself u'll ace it, u can do this, u're better than the rest of em murrfuggers, heh. and as mike matusow says, 'the power of positive thinking' always helps during a session. good luck! |
