Maybe I've been under a rock, but I've never heard of this at a live room before. At one of our local Indian casino poker rooms, you can't buy your entry into these wsop satellites. You must play raked hours and earn your way in. (I've seen this done with freerolls, but not with WSOP sattys)

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like this could be a ripoff since you could lose a bunch while they make their rake off you. Or on the other hand, the casino may be risking overlay if they don't get enough rake to cover expenses. 3 WSOP entries. 1 for each of 3 events. Pretty sure it's cash game rake only.

Opinions?

I think it's pretty much the norm for poker rooms to reward their players like this. Turning Stone gives away seats to their larger tournaments all the time (randomly draw a table & seat at certain times of the day). It's all part of the poker rooms promotional budget set up well in advance.

I'm pretty sure they do it at casino's everywhere as a reward to their local players.

Still seems like a ripoff. I'd rather buy in for $200 or so. Don't make me spend 100-200 hours in the joint.

This is the type of promo you don't want to do just to get into the satellite. You need to be there already getting the hours for this to make sense to try. Its there to entice people to play more.

Like you said, if you are not already putting in hours there you would probably be better off buying into sats. (just like most promotions at sites, look at take two for example .. it's there to get micro players playing more than one table at a time)
