The sad thing about Norm Chad's horrible jokes is that they are actually scripted. The WSOP commentary is taped weeks after the events, when the video has been edited down to an hour's worth of highlights. You'd think whoever writes this stuff could come up with better material.
By the way, the "other guy" on the WPT telecasts is Mike Sexton, who's no slouch at the table in his own right. You'll learn more about poker fundamentals from listening to Phil Gordon on "Celebrity Poker Showdown" than just about anyone out there. Although the poker itself on that show is pretty bad. Mike Sexton on WPT is excellent for more in-depth analysis, particularly regarding tourney-style play. The Van Patten kid is just there for pretty-boy fluff. Everyone else I've watched is just another babbling head. Last edited by RammerJammer : 29-07-2005 at 9:43 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

About 6 or 7 months ago there was a tourney and they had Annie Duke & Daniel Negrano ( i never spell his last name rite ) as the commenators and i really enjoyed it, they explained everything from a players point of view, i dont remember what tourney it was but it was great commentary and Yes Mike Sexton is a very good player.>>>>> I voted for Van Patton & Sexton though in this poll.

Gabe Kaplan is funny, entertaining and knows enough of the game to be relevant. For pure poker analysis I gotta go with Howard Lederer and Phil Gordon. Incidentally, I recommend downloading Phil Gordons podcasts at http://www.expertinsight.com/_Podcast.html

Watched the live whole tourney on FSS a few weeks back (Christy Gazes beat Ted Forrest) and Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer were doing some play by play and it as good stuff. They got into detail about how to handle the non-televised portions of the tourney such as stealing blinds, etc...

I prefer a man who can hold his own at the tables and take advice from them and that is Sexton and Gordon and they most always call it right that Van Patten is a Bozo and is just a prop on that set |
