| Dont you just hate it when your pocket picture cards don't hold up? Alright, I played a great Live Tourney game on Sunday finishing wll ITM and I decided to deposit a couple of hundred bucks at Party Poker because I was very pleased with my game. I sat at a $2BB table with $200. Anyway I was playing well and my stack was rapidly increasing. I was making all the right moves. 3 Hours of play and I had made 1.2k. I decided I needed to move up in tables. I sat at a table where there was only one player with more money than me. I played for about 20 minutes with a $66 profit. Then I get the big boys, Kings on the Button. Before I could even think about how I wanna play the hand the player to my right (the one guy with more money than me on the table) makes a decent sized raise, I raise a decent amount hoping for a shove from my opponent. I get my wish, he puts me all in and I call. He turns over pocket 5's and Im an overwhelming favourite. I await the flop, 10 10 5. He makes a Full House on the flop. Two Queens come on the turn and river - 1,266USD gone. What could I do I shrug off the disappointment saying to myself I had done nothing wrong. Happy with my game I deposit a further 250USD. I sit at the $2BB table. Very second hand I get pocket Jacks. I just limp in with them in. Im in the hand with the BB and SB. Flop comes J 9 9. Full house baby. BB goes all in, SB folds and im thinking the BB has made trip 9's. Naturally, I call. He shows 97o. All I need to avoid is the 9 nine remaining in the deck. Turn is an 8. He needs the remaining 9 on the river. BAM! I couldn't believe it, I stand there in shock as I see my 250USD go to my opponent. What a horrible suckout. |

| re: Dont you just hate it when your pocket picture cards don't hold up? poker Its all good. We've all done it before. I shouldve been a bit more specific in my previous post. If you can deposit enough to play these stakes, then do so. But if you're depositing only $200-$250 at a time, I suggest you drop down to the $10 buy in games. Its a big drop, but the losses wont be as bad. Especially when you run into situations like these where your big hands get beat. Losing a $10 buy-in and having $190 left over in your bankroll is ok. Losing $200 and you only have $200 is not ok since you've put your whole BR at risk. I think a BR of at least 4K, 20 $200 buy-ins, is enough to play at those limits. I'd personally want to have more, but thats definitely enough to work with. And if 4K is too much to deposit at once, deposit what you can afford then play the limits your BR allows. |

| Your right mate and I've paid the price now losing money I certainly can't afford to lose, Im just a student. This is certainly a heavy price to pay for my mistake, but hopefully I'll learn from this setback and manage my money in a safer manner. I'm usually very tight with my bankroll but sometimes when your playing well, you get enticed into playing at stakes you can't afford, and then when you lose it you deposit more, and more, and more. Im down $800 in the space of a couple of hours, I don't know how Im gonna get that money, but hopefully this will teach me a lesson for next time before I lose something in the thousands region. |

| Im down 2.7k now, I've exceeded my visa limit and I don't know how Im going to pay it off. I only have a about 1.5k in my bank account, no idea where Im gonna get the rest of the 1.2k. I got pocket aces 3 times and people shoved all 3 occasions. I lost two of those showdowns. Horrible bad beats and constant suckouts, I think I was favourite or atleast in a race situation on all the showdowns, yet I managed to lose around 70% of them. I've got 55USD and im gonna play in a 50USD SitnGo, I'll see how it pans out. Hopefully this has taught me a harsh lesson on Bankroll management. |

| BR Managment Quote:
I agree and disagree at the same time. My BR is not in a poker room account. I have poker losses budgeted directly into my life. In 3 years I am up slightly. The first 2 years I played seriously I had some loosing sessions which gave me a net loss for the year and this year I am up moderatly (Jan - present). I don't like keeping to much in my PS account because I don't want to go on tilt and risk it all (which I've done before). Not keeping my BR online helps me be more patient. My basic point is what your actual BR is depends on how you manage your money. Believe it or not there are more ways to do one thing. |

You've told us 2 or 3 pertinent things; 1-You are a student = young 2-You are playing over you head money wise. Your game may be capable but your bankroll isn't. 3-You haven't shown us any self restraint. It is that self restraint part that is your problem. |

| re: Dont you just hate it when your pocket picture cards don't hold up? poker Perhaps Im in denial but I really dont think Im a gambling addict. Sure I've lost more money than I can afford but that came from being on tilt, not from the rush of Gambling. I've decided to cut my losses and pay the money by using all the money in my savings account. I've also spoken to my borther and he has offered to pay for the remaining money that I owe the bank. I'll pay him back by selling some of my belongings. |
