| DONKEY OR NOT? Just curious. Are you a donkey for making a bad call or are you a donkey for making a play(raise to push someone off) and outflopping your opponent and taking his money? Sometimes all of it. The only reason I ask is I've made raises (on occasion) like this only to steal. Then I get called a donkey when they see I beat there AQ with a 56. | A donkey is a person that makes an uneducated poker decision. Ask yourself why you raised with 56 in the first place. If it was to steal, what would your move be if you get called and flop nothing? What if he re-raises you? If you can't come up with good answers to these questions, then you are probably a donkey. |

| I raised because I thought there was a good chance he would fold. He folded every other time he was reraised. Depending on the texture of the flop I'm definately firing a c-bet. If I don't like the flop I can check and see his play. If he raises me and it's like an allin and it doesnt cost me much I have to call and just hope for the best. If it's something substantially more I can let it go, but this guy has shown either fold(most of the time) or just a call. Please let me know if these answers are sufficient. I'd like to know if I'm a bigger donk than I thought. |

| You have to understand that since he folded "every other time he was reraised", for him to call in this instance, he must have a pretty solid hand. That would make you a underdog on almost any flop. As for calling an all-in, that would depend mainly on your chip stack versus his. There are instances that you should call an all-in regardless of your cards. However, you don't want to give away leverage unnecessarily either. |

| re: DONKEY OR NOT? poker Yes but since he did just call I didnt think he was huge. I figured big, but not A's big. It felt like AK but I thought he might of got tired of folding and might of even played down to an A10. This guy doesnt like his big hands cracked and he's usually making a bigger bet where I would just fold. if he does have like a pair of 8's and it comes its in my area and i might have some outs if it does go bad. |

| Well, in my opinion, your decision pre-flop was fine. I don't know the exact situation, but your post-flop decisions on this hand do seem a little sketchy. You put him on an array of hands, all of which would be favorites over yours. Unless you catch a straight draw or 2 pair, I would get out of the way. |

| Well I am in the same boat,I will call a min raise in pos with such cards as k/q os and hit my flop, then let the person hang themself and get called a donk. Or I will take a person that is raising big everytime from the same late pos and fold to them till I ge tplaying cards and call there bluff and get called a donk. Either way it does not bother me who considers me a donk or not because my play speaks for itself as well as my stats and my money in the bank. |

| Here to me is a donkey play. Say you raise 3-4xbb w AKs caller has 25o, flop comes QQ10, you cbet pot, opponent calls, turn is 9, putting a str8 draw out there, you bet 1/2 pot or pot whatever, opponent calls, river is a 2, whether you check or bet, opponent comes along to sweep a pot he should have never even been in. But normally Donkey is thrown way to much, just because someone plays loose doesnt mean theyre a donkey...in my opinion, you know who uses the phrase donkey alot...DONKS that don't have a good understanding of the game...level one thinkers. |

| re: DONKEY OR NOT? poker Sometimes I will see a pattern and call/bet accordingly.I was just in a game where my small blind woulda won 3 times in a row,if I woulda called. So the fourth time I got 42 offsuit, two others put me allin and the flop was 442...Ya wanna talk about the comments flying around the table, lol. The guy with AA was the madest.I tried to explain my call, but it didnt matter to them plus it was a freeroll and Im sorta sleepy and didnt care to lose.So sometimes donkey calls make sense.I trippled up with the 442 boat. |

| I agree with rich when he says donks use the phrase too much. As far as who's a donk and who's not, it really depends on the consistency of play. I've watched pros make "donk" moves that made no sense, we've all done it. Just like a few other things in life...the person that claims they've never done it is a liar. We've all been there, and it's not one of our proudest moments but we've double up off someone we shouldn't have been in a hand with. As far as this whole thread goes, like they say in rounders if you can't spot the sucker, you're the sucker. (not a quote!!! LOL) |

| The cards you decide to play don't make you a donk, simply because, any two cards can win at anytime. I guaranteed we've all been called donks by some of those we've beat. At the same time we've thought the guy or gal was a donk for calling our pocket pair raise with things like 2 9 offsuit and beating us with a boat on the river. Some people will play anything. Hell I just had a guy go all in on the first hand in a tourney with 3 8 offsuit, I had pocket A's had to call, he caught 456 on the flop 7 on the river to knock me out. I just laughed ..... said gl and watched him lose it all in three hands. Usually the ones who win once with trash think they always will and lose it all quick. | Exactly, that's why it hurts so bad...You're giving all your chips to someone who doesn't know what they are doing and will almost certainly lose it quickly to the others at the table. Makes you kick yourself for not waiting for an even better spot. As for the question of who is a donk...It's not about making an aggressive play or even making mistakes overplaying a hand, everyone does that at some point, it's the frequency of your bs plays. Some people make the same mistakes over and over again, and when they get lucky, the get encouraged to continue to play in this fashion instead of realizing that they haven't been playing correctly...Not realizing you made a dumb play after you make it to me is a clear sign you're a donk. |

the only important thing is: will you win or will you lose over a longer time. when you win hands with luck and lose all the money immediately and dont know, when you really had luck or made a mistake, then you are a donk. |

| Ok lets try this again. I had replied to Nickmond but for some reason it didnt show up. Now first of all this is not a play I make all the time. It was definately situational. If I had it to do again I would because I really think I am going to win the pot more often than not without seeing a flop. It's these kinds of plays that seem to make me more money in the end. When I play only big hands the other players notice and start to fold any time I'm in a hand. But when I make a move like this they remember and are more likely to give me some action when I have my good hands. I thought I reasoned this out pretty well. You can't sit tight all the time. You have to be ready to gamble a little if for no other reason but to show the others at the table you play more than premium hands. No one berates guys like Dwan and Farha for these loose kinds of plays. I'm not saying I'm in their league, but it's the same play. It's not always the cards your holding but whose sitting at the table that decides the play. I think there are more people who could benefit from that as opposed to being told to sit tight and wait. If all I do is steal your blinds 3 out of 5 times average a session I'm still gonna come out a winning player. So you all go ahead and be patient, wait for premium holdings and I'll keep taking your blinds. It will all add up in the long run. |

| Again if you read what I said earlier I DID NOT CALL! I raised he called. He showed no strength at all except for his initial raise. I was making a play. By you general response I'm going to assume you have not even read what was posted. Try getting all the info before making a comment diemos, then put in your 2 sense. |

| re: DONKEY OR NOT? poker When you stack someone or knock them out of a MTT and they feel superior to you, and that you were lucky rather than skilled in beating them, that's when you will see this: "&^*(^ donkey" "What a donkey call!@!@!" "Die, donkey, die" Screw 'em. I usually see that as a sign of immaturity and playing above their BR. Everyone gives out bad beats and everyone has made bad calls. At one point in time, we all were "donkeys" according to most peoples definations. I try not to define players as donkeys, to be honest. I define them as fish. |
